How often do you go on a diet and count calories to lose weight, only to be disappointed when you step on the scales?
Whilst it is well documented that you have to burn more calories than you eat, have you ever wondered what else might be affecting how effective this is?
I’m with you in this! I have managed to lose 1 stone 4.5 lb since the beginning of the year but it’s not been fun 😅.
So what else has an effect? And how can reflexology help?
THE BODY WORKS AS ONE WHOLE SYSTEM
When people struggle with weight, it’s rarely just about food. Many different systems in the body play a role, including:
Hormones
Stress levels
Sleep
Digestion
Metabolism
Emotional wellbeing
If any of these systems are out of balance, it can become much harder for the body to regulate weight
This is where reflexology can be incredibly supportive. The scientific evidence directly linking reflexology to weight loss is limited. Reflexology is certainly not a magic wand, however it may support weight management indirectly — through stress reduction, improved sleep, better digestion, and increased body awareness — rather than directly causing fat loss.
Reflexology works by applying pressure to specific reflex points on the feet that correspond to organs, glands and systems in the body.
These points stimulate the nervous system and encourage the body to move toward homeostasis which means balance.
Over the rest of this week I will be focusing on how reflexology can support weight management which, I hope, will help you understand your weight loss/management journey.
