Our underlying attitudes, often subconscious, shape how we approach everything in life. Sometimes these attitudes really get in the way of what we want to achieve. This is the topic of my latest blog post and, specifically, it's about how we can use the Alexander Technique when running: https://julia-woodman.co.uk/blog/

Caring for a partner or family member living with dementia or a disease like Parkinson’s often brings many challenges. Caring can mean responding immediately to another person's needs, leaving little room to notice your own reactions or state of wellbeing. Over time, deep patterns can develop of holding and tightening, emotional dysregulation and a diminished sense of agency. Learning to create even a small moment of choice before responding can gradually restore a sense of calm and control that benefits both the carer and the person they support.
A new study published in the International Journal of Geriatric Psychiatry explored a group-based programme in the Alexander Technique, developed by the US-based Poise project. The study used a standardised content and format to teach the essential skills of the Alexander Technique to 63 people who were all caring for someone living with Parkinson's. When learning a new sport we sometimes come up against old habits that get in our way, whether of movement, or of attitude. The Alexander Technique gives us a very practical approach to learning new skills and addressing unhelpful habits. Through it we can overcome some habits completely and other times we learn how to work with them. Read more: https://julia-woodman.co.uk/blog/
