🌟 Spotlight on a Cancer Champion: Meet Allana from Carers Count

This month, we’re shining a spotlight on Allana, whose work is making a real difference for unpaid carers across Calderdale.

Alongside her role at Carers Count, Allana regularly attends wards and hosts a monthly stall at Calderdale Royal Hospital, helping carers access information, advice and support.

Since becoming a Cancer Champion, Allana has been able to share trusted cancer information and Macmillan resources with people who may need them most — particularly those who are newly diagnosed.

Allana says:

“The training was very good and informative. Since completing it, I’ve been able to promote Macmillan information at my hospital stall, which has had a really positive effect.”

Her work also helps shine a light on an often-overlooked issue: unpaid carers can put their own health last. By being present in the hospital, Allana helps make sure carers are recognised, supported and signposted earlier.

A huge thank you to Allana for her compassion and commitment to carers and cancer awareness. 💚

Cancer screening can save lives—but for many people, a lack of information, fear or uncertainty can make it feel difficult to take that first step.

Through Calderdale Cancer Aware, we’re helping local communities better understand the importance of breast, bowel and cervical screening, what each screening involves and why attending when invited matters.

These conversations are about making cancer awareness clear, approachable and less frightening—giving people the confidence to ask questions, recognise the importance of early detection and access the support available to them.

Please don’t ignore your screening invitation. It could make all the difference.

What a fantastic experience! This week, the CCA and the PGPA had the absolute pleasure of attending the Learning Disabilities Event hosted by Lead the Way.

Our main focus was discussing the vital importance of screening and promoting early detection. It was incredibly inspiring to connect with so many excellent individuals who are truly passionate about making a difference.We can already see so many meaningful ways to collaborate in the future to serve their service users. Our ultimate goal is to ensure people feel fully empowered when it comes to understanding their bodies and managing their health.

We are incredibly excited about what the future holds for this partnership! 🚀
