Ceridwen Herbs Registered Medical Herbalist and BACH Flower Remedy practitioner. I have also trained in mycotherapy. I work in North & West Devon.

Herbal Medicine is a traditional way of treating many disorders and diseases through the use of plants. It has been part of our cultural heritage for centuries. A healthy body is balanced and in harmony. In my practice I look for the root or underlying causes of a chronic problem and treat this holistically. In this way the patient will regain and retain their health and vitality. Because everyone

is unique apparently similar symptoms are likely to have different causes which is why it is vital to treat at this level rather than purely symtomatically. Medicines will be prepared individually according to each patient's specific requirements. Plants are chosen for their unique properties. The flowers, leaves, roots, seeds and bark may all be used. Medicines will be in the form of a liquid tincture, capsules, teas or ointments. My own organic herbs will be used where available. An initial prescription will be made up and instructions given for its dose etc. This will be assessed at the following consultation.

Hypericum perforatum - St John's Wort. Is it magic or alchemy? The yellow flowers (and a few of the top leaves) macerated for a few weeks in oil, turning it bright red. Never ceases to amaze me. Such is the joy of making herbal medicine.

Here's another (and the final) night blooming cactus, Selenicereus grandiflorus. Timed perfectly for the amazing full moon this evening. Although I was hoping it would hang on for a couple of days to coincide with birchherbalists summer school so the students could witness this beauty. Maybe next year.

Students at complete a dissertation during their final module. I've been having another look at mine from 2008. On my travels and research in India I was privileged to visit in Auroville. In their herb garden was this lovely painting. Finally after so many years I have a herb garden worthy of such a painting, so I have just completed it ready for summer school. I don't know who created the original, but I honour their talent and thank Pitchandikulam forest for their hospitality.
