A lovely little delivery through the post today 📬💙

I’ve received the latest newsletter from the Independent Diabetes Trust (IDDT), along with information about their upcoming Everyday Diabetes get-together.

Since completing my recent diabetic foot screening training, I’ve been even more passionate about continuing to develop my knowledge and understanding around diabetic foot health.

As a Foot Health Practitioner, I believe it’s so important to keep learning and staying up to date, so I can provide the best possible care and advice to my clients living with diabetes. 👣

Diabetes can have a significant impact on foot health, and regular foot checks, good foot care and knowing when to seek further medical advice can make such an important difference.

I’m really looking forward to continuing my learning and building on my knowledge in this area. 💙

Continuing my professional development 🦶💚

I’m pleased to share that I’ve recently completed a Diabetic Foot Screening Workshop with DUET Diabetes, held at Stonebridge College and led by Gareth Hicks.

The training covered diabetic foot assessment, including neuropathy, peripheral arterial disease (PAD), foot ulcer risk, risk classification, appropriate footwear and referral pathways. We also completed practical, hands-on assessments and demonstrated the ability to test for neuropathy and PAD.

Diabetes can significantly increase the risk of serious foot complications, so having the knowledge and skills to recognise potential problems early is incredibly important.

I’m really pleased to be able to add this training to my professional development and further support the diabetic clients I care for as part of my Foot Health Care service.

My certificate is valid for two years, and I’m looking forward to putting my learning into practice. 💚

Fun Friday Fact: Blisters are your skin’s tiny alarm system 👣🚨

Did you know a blister is your body’s way of protecting the skin from too much rubbing?

When your shoe, sock or activity creates repeated friction, fluid can build up under the top layer of skin. It may look annoying, but that little bubble is actually trying to cushion and protect the area.

A few quick facts:
🧦 Socks that bunch up can cause extra rubbing
👟 New shoes are one of the biggest blister culprits
🚶 Long walks, warm weather and sweaty feet can make blisters more likely
⚠️ Popping a blister can increase the risk of infection, especially if the skin underneath is exposed

Simple tip for the weekend: if you are wearing new shoes, break them in gradually and keep an eye out for “hot spots” before they turn into blisters.

👉 Fun question for this Friday:
What has given you the worst blister?
New shoes 👟
A long walk 🚶
Holiday sandals 👡
Work shoes 🧑⚕️

🦶 Why do many older people struggle to cut their toenails?

It’s something I hear often during appointments and there are actually many reasons why nail care becomes more difficult with age.

Common reasons include:
▪️ Reduced flexibility or mobility
▪️ Arthritis in the hands, hips or back
▪️ Poor eyesight
▪️ Thickened nails that are harder to cut
▪️ Reduced circulation
▪️ Feeling unsteady when bending down

For some people, what was once a simple task can become uncomfortable, frustrating or even unsafe.

Neglected nails can then lead to:
⚠️ Pain and pressure
⚠️ Ingrown toenails
⚠️ Difficulty walking
⚠️ Increased risk of infection

Regular foot care isn’t just about appearance it’s about comfort, mobility and maintaining independence 💙

Sometimes a little help with foot care can make a huge difference to someone’s confidence and quality of life.
