Hello September!

The kids will soon be heading back to school; it's back to early alarms and routines.

September always feels like a month of shifts and busier schedules; longer hours at your desk and less movement can take their toll on your body.

It's one of the reasons why we always get a lot of bookings at this time of the year - if you've felt great over the summer but are already noticing tension creeping in, that isn't a coincidence.

This month is a great time to invest in how your body feels before autumn sets in, and we are welcoming new patients to our Kettering clinic:-

The muscles of the human body make up around 40% of total body weight, and there are over 600 of them.

The largest is the gluteus maximus (your bottom), and the smallest is the stapedius, deep inside your ear, roughly 1mm long, which helps protect your hearing from loud sounds.

From one millimetre to the muscle that powers every step you take - quite the range!

August is the perfect month to look at your sleep setup.

The quality of the surface you sleep on, the height and firmness of your pillow, and the position you sleep in all have a direct impact on how your spine and joints feel in the morning.

As a general guide, your pillow should keep your head in neutral alignment with your spine, not propped up or dropping down.

Side sleepers often benefit from a pillow between the knees to reduce rotation through the lower back, and if your mattress is over 8 years old and you're waking up stiff, it may be doing more harm than good.

Small changes to your sleep setup can make a surprisingly big difference!

That shooting pain down your leg, the tingling in your foot, the ache deep in your buttock that just won't shift. If any of this sounds familiar, swipe through - because sciatica is one of the most common things we treat, and one of the most misunderstood.

The good news is that most people don't have to just wait it out. With the right assessment and treatment, the majority of our sciatica patients see significant improvement within just a few sessions.

If you've been putting up with leg pain, numbness or tingling for more than a couple of weeks, please don't leave it any longer. We're taking new patients at our Kettering clinic. You can find the link to book in our bio:-

Your hands contain 54 bones between them - that's more than a quarter of all the bones in your entire body.

Combined with 34 muscles (many of which are actually located in your forearm), they're capable of extraordinary precision.

Which makes it all the more important to look after them. Repetitive strain, poor wrist position, and overuse are incredibly common, especially for keyboard and phone users.

Let's talk about walking.

It sounds almost too simple, but a 20-30 minute walk every day is one of the best things you can do for your back, your joints, and your mental health. Walking engages your core, mobilises your hips and spine, and pumps synovial fluid through your joints, essentially lubricating them as you move.

With no expensive gym required!

When did you last have a proper technology-free morning?

Even just a couple of hours without a screen can reduce cortisol levels, ease eye strain, and give your nervous system a genuine break.

This morning, why not go for a walk, make a nutritious breakfast, or read an actual book? Your body and your mind will notice the difference, and you might be surprised how much tension you're carrying that you weren't even aware of!
