Sunday continuous professional development - a good friend has had a stroke so I’m travelling later this week to see him and support with acupuncture. Scalp acupuncture has some great research so I’ve spent the day doing extra training and knowledge building!!

Shoulder pain… so why on earth am I putting a needle in your hand or foot? 🤔

It’s one of the questions I get asked a lot in clinic — and no, I haven’t forgotten where your shoulder is! 😂

Acupuncture isn’t always about putting needles directly into the area that hurts.

Think of it a bit like your Wi-Fi. If your laptop isn’t connecting properly, the laptop might not actually be the problem — sometimes you need to go and reset the router.

Your body can be similar. Where you feel the pain isn’t always the only place we need to consider when treating it.

That’s why I might use points in your hand, foot, leg or somewhere completely different from where you expected.

It’s not random. There’s a reason behind every point I choose. ❤️

That’s acupuncture.

One of the best parts of teaching isn’t just seeing students graduate—it’s watching them grow in confidence, skill and compassion over three years.

A thoughtful gift like this from a student who’s just completed their final year means more than they probably realise. Thank you. ❤️

It’s a privilege to supervise and support the next generation of acupuncturists.

People often tell me, “Acupuncture is just a placebo.”

So… who exactly is my little dog trying to convince?

She has IVDD (a painful spinal condition) and has no idea what acupuncture is, what a placebo is, or what the research says. She simply knows she feels comfortable enough to relax… and even fall asleep during treatment.

The placebo effect is real and fascinating—it can influence how we experience symptoms. But it’s only one part of a much bigger picture.

Instead of asking, “Is acupuncture just a placebo?” researchers are now asking better questions:
✨ What changes in the brain?
✨ How does the nervous system respond?
✨ What happens to blood flow?
✨ What can we actually measure?

Science is helping us understand more about how acupuncture affects the body, and we’re learning more every year.

This is the first of many myths I’ll be busting, so if you’re curious about what the evidence really says, hit follow and let’s separate fact from fiction—one myth at a time.

Have you ever been told acupuncture is “just a placebo”? Let me know in the comments.

What does cupping actually do?

Most people have seen the famous circular marks left by cupping, but what are those little cups actually doing?

From a Western scientific perspective, research suggests cupping may:
❤️ Increase local blood flow
❤️ Help reduce musculoskeletal pain
❤️ Relax tight muscles
❤️ Stimulate the nervous system to support the body’s natural pain relief
❤️ Support recovery after exercise or injury

While more high-quality research is still needed, the strongest evidence is for helping with neck pain, back pain, shoulder pain and other musculoskeletal conditions.

Acupuncture isn’t just for pain. 🌿

While acupuncture can be incredibly helpful for pain management, it may also support people experiencing:

✨ Insomnia and poor sleep✨ Stress and anxiety✨ Digestive issues✨ Headaches and migraines✨ Hormonal imbalances✨ Fatigue and low energy✨ Menstrual and menopausal symptoms

Acupuncture takes a whole-person approach—looking beyond a single symptom to understand what your body needs.

Curious whether acupuncture could support you? Send me a message or book a consultation.

Thank you Beth Rhydō. This book was recommended to me at The Spicy Librarian | Bookshop and it had me completely hooked—I finished it in just two days because I simply couldn’t put it down!

The characters are brilliantly written, and the storyline is rich, immersive, and full of twists that kept me turning the pages. Brynn is an incredible main character: strong, resilient, and a truly formidable female lead who is impossible not to root for.

A word of warning: this book does contain some significant trigger warnings, so it’s worth checking those before diving in.

If you love the world of the fae and enjoy books by Sarah J. Maas, this is an absolute must-read. I’m already hoping there’s a Book 2 because I need to know what happens next….. please keep writing. Such a fab read!!!

Coffee ☕. Books 📚. My favourite person ❤️

A perfect afternoon at The Spicy Librarian | Bookshop. We’re so lucky to have such a beautiful independent bookshop in Leamington Spa. Amazing atmosphere, brilliant recommendations, and of course… I couldn’t leave empty-handed!

What’s the best book you’ve read this year?

Wondering “Does acupuncture hurt?” You’re not alone — it’s one of the most common questions for first-timers. In our latest blog post we break down what the sensations actually feel like, why needles used in acupuncture are different from injections, and tips to ease nerves before your first treatment. If I had a pound for every time someone asked me, “Does acupuncture hurt?”, I’d probably have enough to treat myself to a rather lovely holiday! It’s by far one of the most common questions I hear, especially from people who have never had acupuncture before. And honestly? I completely unders...
