Spinal cord injury rehabilitation calls for specialist clinical knowledge and a genuinely long-term approach πŸ’™

At Healing Touch Rehab, our multidisciplinary team works with individuals following spinal cord injury to support neural recovery and help each person regain as much function and independence as they can.

Rehabilitation after spinal cord injury is not a short process. It is a carefully planned, evolving journey that addresses the specific impairments each individual is living with, through targeted therapeutic intervention and exercise programmes built around their needs, goals and circumstances.

The aim is always the same: to help each person achieve the best possible level of function and improve quality of life in a way that is meaningful to them.

This week, Healing Touch Rehab Centre celebrates its first anniversary πŸŽ‰

A year ago, we opened our doors with a simple but powerful belief: children and young people with complex neurological needs deserve access to intensive, specialist rehabilitation focused on what each child can achieve.

What this first year has taught us is harder to measure than referral numbers or clinical outcomes. It is the child taking a step they were once told might not be possible. The parent seeing a glimpse of something they had almost stopped hoping for. The small changes that, over time, become life-changing ones ✨

Children and families are now travelling to us from far and wide, finding a centre where specialist rehabilitation is designed around each child's individual needs, goals and potential. What once felt like a real gap in provision is beginning to be filled. That feels like one of the most meaningful milestones of all πŸ’–

And perhaps what has meant the most about this first year is the people who have been part of it. Our incredible team. The children who challenge and inspire us. The families who place their trust in us. The professionals and case managers who work alongside us.

Here's to one year of Healing Touch Rehab, and to everything still to come πŸ’™

Neurological physiotherapy for children is genuinely specialist work, shaped by years of clinical experience across complex paediatric presentations 🧠

Our paediatric neurological physiotherapy service supports children and teenagers presenting with physical difficulties as a result of neurological conditions.

We work with a wide range of presentations including acquired brain injury, cerebral palsy, spinal cord injury, nerve injuries, stroke and multiple trauma, tailoring every programme to the individual child and their family.

From the very first appointment, our focus is on understanding what matters most to the child and the people around them. We carry out detailed initial assessments, provide advice on specialist equipment where needed, and develop specific therapy programmes built around clear, meaningful goals.

We also know that navigating a new diagnosis or finding the right support can feel overwhelming. If you have questions or would simply like to talk through whether our service might be right for your child, we are always happy to have that conversation.

Messages like this one remind us exactly why we do what we do 😊

πŸ’¬ "I feel as though you have given me my life back. When I look to where I was in our first session, it is literally night and day to where I find myself now. The mornings are no longer something I dread. I feel released, and my mind is no longer burdened. I am able to work and go on holiday. I would never have believed I could reach this point."
- Mr Clubley, Vestibular Rehabilitation Client

Vestibular rehabilitation can be a long and demanding process, and the emotional toll of living with vestibular symptoms is often underestimated. These words are a reminder of what dedicated, personalised rehabilitation can achieve.

Thank you for sharing this with us, Mr Clubley. We wish you well for the rest of your journey πŸ™

When someone sustains multiple serious injuries in a single incident, the impact on their body and their life can be profound and far-reaching πŸ’™

Polytrauma describes exactly this: two or more significant injuries affecting different areas or systems of the body at the same time. It is not a diagnosis in itself, but a way of understanding the complexity of what a person is facing and what their rehabilitation will need to address.

The conditions that arise from polytrauma can affect the musculoskeletal system, the pulmonary system, abdominal organs and beyond. Alongside the physical injuries, individuals often face significant functional challenges, some of which may require surgical intervention, and the road back to independence and quality of life requires carefully coordinated, specialist support.

At Healing Touch Rehab, we understand that rehabilitating someone following polytrauma requires more than one discipline working in isolation. Our approach is genuinely multidisciplinary, bringing together the right clinical expertise around each individual and working closely with other specialists including nursing, speech and language therapy and behavioural therapy where needed.

Every programme we develop is built around the person in front of us, their specific injuries, their goals and what getting better looks and feels like for them.

Bookings are now open for Collaboration in Rehabilitation 2026 πŸ“’

This year's event is hosted in partnership with Intospeech Ltd and Positive OT & Case Management on 15 October 2026 at St George's Conference Centre, Leeds.

The conference brings together solicitors, case managers, therapists and the wider rehabilitation community to strengthen interdisciplinary collaboration for both children and adults. The day will feature case studies, lived client experiences and honest discussions about what genuinely delivers functional, meaningful outcomes, with a particular focus this year on the value of longer-term MDT involvement throughout the rehabilitation journey.

For solicitors, therapy providers and case managers working with clients who have complex or catastrophic injuries, this is an opportunity to hear directly from professionals across the MDT, build relationships with the experts you refer to and instruct, and gain practical insights that can be applied to your own caseload.

✨ Early bird tickets are available at £87.38 per person until 11 September 2026

Respiratory health is an aspect of neurological rehabilitation that is easy to overlook, but for many of the people we work with, it has a significant impact on daily life, energy levels and overall wellbeing β€οΈβ€πŸ©Ή

Neurological conditions can affect the muscles and mechanisms involved in breathing, leading to difficulties such as breathlessness, reduced lung function, chronic coughing and postural complications that further compromise respiratory capacity. When breathing is affected, everything else becomes harder too.

Our respiratory physiotherapy service provides tailored assessment and treatment for individuals experiencing these difficulties. Our team understands the relationship between neurological conditions and respiratory health, and works with each person to develop a programme that addresses their specific presentation and goals.

Whether a client is managing a long-term condition or recovering from an acute neurological event, respiratory physiotherapy can play an important role in improving comfort, function and quality of life.
