Today is Global Parents Day 💚

This year’s theme, Together for Parents, is a reminder that no parent should ever feel they have to navigate challenges alone.

At Liverpool Occupational Therapy Services, every day we see the love, patience, resilience, and advocacy that parents and carers give to their children…often while juggling worries, appointments, school meetings, and everyday life behind the scenes.

Whether your child is thriving, struggling, growing, regulating, learning, or simply taking things one step at a time…you are doing better than you think 💙

Today, we celebrate parents, carers, guardians, and support networks everywhere 👏

Huff, puff… GO 💨💚

These fun oral motor activities help children develop the strength, coordination and control needed for everyday skills such as eating, drinking and speech development — all through play-based intervention.

Not only are these activoties brilliant for developing breath control and oral motor coordination, but activities like bubbles and blowing games can also be calming and regulating for children with sensory needs.

The best part? The children are having so much fun they don’t even realise how hard they’re working 💚

Which activity would your child enjoy most? 👀

Many parents and carers sit in a difficult in-between space.

Not quite sure if something is a concern.
Not sure if they should wait and see.
Not sure what support would even look like.

That uncertainty can feel overwhelming.

Our Ask the OT sessions are designed to give clarity.

Here’s what it is:
🧠 A full 60-minute session with a qualified Occupational Therapist
📍 Available in person (Liverpool clinic) or online via Microsoft Teams
👶 You can bring your child if helpful

We can talk through:
– sensory needs and behaviours you’re noticing
– school concerns or feedback you’ve received
– motor skills (writing, coordination, daily tasks)
– routines that feel difficult at home
– emotional regulation and overwhelm

You’ll leave with:
✔ Clear understanding of what might be going on
✔ Practical strategies you can use immediately
✔ Advice tailored to your child (not generic information)
✔ Next steps if further support is needed

This is not a long waiting list service or a formal assessment pathway.
It is direct, practical support from an Occupational Therapist who listens and helps you make sense of things.

💷 £75 per session
📍 Liverpool clinic or online

If you’re unsure whether this is right for you, message us, and we can talk it through. If you’d like to book your session, contact us here - https://liverpool-occupational-therapy-services.co.uk/contact-us/

A lovely moment to end the week 🌼

Earlier last week, Ashleigh was kindly gifted these beautiful flowers and a thoughtful card from a lovely client and her family.

This week marked the end of occupational therapy input for this young person. Ashleigh has worked with her for around 6 months, following previous support from Kerry over the last 12 months.

It has been a pleasure to be part of her journey. Over this time, she has made significant progress with regulation, fine motor skills, and handwriting.

While it feels bittersweet to say goodbye after building such a positive therapeutic relationship, it’s incredibly rewarding to see the progress she has made and the impact occupational therapy has had.

Wishing her all the very best moving forward - we’re so proud of everything she has achieved 💚

Instead of focusing on big interventions, sometimes the smallest adjustments make the biggest difference.

Here are a few practical shifts we often recommend in schools:
🧠 Break instructions into one step at a time
→ reduces overload and improves understanding

🪑 Offer flexible seating options
→ supports regulation and focus

🌀 Build in movement, not just stillness
→ helps children reset and re-engage

✏️ Reduce copying demands where possible
→ allows focus on learning, not motor strain

These are simple adjustments, but they can significantly change how a child experiences their school day.

We offer training in schools for staff, so that the school day is accessible and enjoyable for every student. You can contact us to find out more about our school training sessions - https://liverpool-occupational-therapy-services.co.uk/contact-us/

Sunshine, fresh air, and therapy in the park ☀️💚

Amy and Kerry have been making the most of the beautiful weather this week while supporting a young person out in the community.

Today’s session took place in the park, combining movement, engagement, and therapeutic support in an outdoor environment 🌳

Sometimes the best therapy happens beyond four walls - outdoor sessions can provide wonderful opportunities to build confidence, develop skills, and support regulation in a natural and motivating environment.

We love being able to adapt sessions to meet the needs of the young people we support while making the most of spaces in the community ☀️

Not being able to sit still isn’t always about behaviour 🪑

For some children, movement is how they regulate, focus, and make sense of what’s going on around them.

When we understand this, we can start to respond in ways that support the child rather than just manage the behaviour 🧠

If you have noticed this in your child, contact us to discuss how we can help https://liverpool-occupational-therapy-services.co.uk/contact-us/

Sensory needs are often misunderstood. They are not just about being sensitive or fussy.

They can affect how a child experiences their environment, regulates emotions, and manages everyday tasks inside and outside of school.

What might look small from the outside can feel very big to a child. Our mission is to raise awareness about sensory sensitivities and support every child in Liverpool and the surrounding areas who requires OT support 💚
