Mealtimes can be a real source of stress for families when a child is struggling with cutlery and it is something we see come up regularly with the children we support 🍴

In this video, our team share some great strategies to support your child's cutlery use at home - practical, easy to implement, and genuinely effective.

If mealtimes have been a challenge lately, give this a watch. If you would like tailored advice specific to your child, we are back from today and would love to hear from you 💙

We have some very exciting news - we have a new face joining the LOTS team🌟

We are absolutely thrilled to welcome Julia as our newest Occupational Therapist.

Julia brings a wealth of experience working with children and young people across Liverpool as an Occupational Therapy Assistant, and qualified as an Occupational Therapist in June 2026, so she joins us at a really exciting stage of her career.

We are so pleased to have her on board and cannot wait for her to get stuck in. Please join us in giving Julia the warmest of welcomes 💚

Today feels like a very special 1st September 🎉

Not only are we back from our summer break and absolutely ready for what promises to be a brilliant new term, but today also marks two years since Liverpool Occupational Therapy Services opened its doors.

Two years of assessments, interventions, training sessions, and thousands of conversations with parents, carers, schools, and professionals who are all working so hard to support the children in their lives.

Two years of doing the work we love, with a team we are so proud of, for families who inspire us every single day.

We could not be more grateful - to every family who has trusted us, every school who has welcomed us, and every colleague who has been part of this journey so far.

If you have contacted us over the summer, please bear with us - we will be working through our emails and getting back to everyone as soon as possible.

Here is to everything that comes next...💚

Happy work anniversary to our wonderful Emma 🎉

Today marks one whole year since Emma joined the LOTS team as an Occupational Therapy Assistant and what a year it has been.

Emma brings so much warmth, dedication, and passion to everything she does, and the difference she makes to the children and families we work with every single day is something we are incredibly proud of.

We are so lucky to have you Emma - here is to many more years together 💚

The night before school goes back can be one of the most anxious times for children and for parents too 💙

A few things that can help make it a little calmer:
🎒 Get everything packed and ready the evening before so the morning feels manageable
🌙 Stick to the usual bedtime routine - familiarity is really settling for an anxious child
📱 Screens off early - a calm nervous system makes for a much better night's sleep
💬 Keep conversation light and forward-looking rather than dwelling on worries
🤍 Remind your child that it is completely normal to feel nervous and that those feelings will not last forever

Whatever next week brings, you have got this…and so have they 💚

As August goes on, the back to school countdown begins and for some children, that brings a rising tide of worry rather than excitement 💙

School anxiety is really common, and it can show up in all sorts of ways. Some children become clingy or tearful. Others go quiet and withdrawn. Stomach aches, headaches, and disrupted sleep in the run-up to September are all signs that a child is carrying more worry than they know what to do with.

For children who already face additional challenges - with sensory processing, emotional regulation, social situations, or attention - the return to school can bring a particular kind of overwhelm.

If this sounds like your child, please know that you are not alone, and there is plenty you can do to help them feel more ready.

We have written a brand new blog to help you, as parents, support your children. Read it here https://liverpool-occupational-therapy-services.co.uk/stories/practical-ways-to-prepare-anxious-children-for-september/ 💚

Turns out our team are just as good at exploring new cities as they are at supporting children 🍀

A few of the LOTS team took a little trip to Dublin during the holidays and we think they deserved every single second of it.

We hope you had the best time. We cannot wait to have you back in September 💚

If you have been told your child may have sensory processing difficulties or if you have noticed they are easily overwhelmed, avoid certain textures or sounds, or struggle to regulate their emotions - a Sensory Profile Assessment could be a really valuable next step 🧩

Here is what it involves:
✅ Observations of your child in their chosen setting - home, clinic, or school
✅ Completion of the Sensory Processing Measure-2 (SPM-2)
✅ A sensory profile report with personalised recommendations
✅ A 30-minute virtual feedback session to talk through the findings

Cost: £445

The assessment takes up to one hour, and your report will be with you within 15 working days. We will be back from 1st September and would love to hear from you.
