Official Statement from The Mobility Wizard

After working 7 days a week, regularly putting in 10+ hour days, travelling thousands of miles around South Wales, and somehow still answering the phone at all hours, I was shocked to discover that I had been suspended from work today at 3:30pm for gross misconduct.

The allegation?

Leaving work at 3:30pm.

Following this devastating news, I sought advice from a fellow employee over a pint. It was quickly established that said employee had also finished work at 3:30pm and had not been suspended.

A full investigation was therefore launched.

After careful consideration, it became apparent that I was being unfairly treated by management.

An emergency board meeting was immediately called involving the Owner, Managing Director, CEO, Head of HR, Senior Engineer, Workshop Manager and Employee Representative.

As The Mobility Wizard is a one-man company, attendance was excellent.

After a lengthy discussion lasting almost an entire pint, the board unanimously agreed that suspending the company's only engineer, manager, owner and tea-maker was perhaps not the wisest business decision.

I am therefore delighted to announce that I have been fully reinstated with immediate effect and will return to my position tomorrow morning.

The CEO has apologised to the employee. The employee has accepted the apology. Both parties have agreed to move forward.

I'd like to thank everyone for their support during this extremely difficult 45-minute suspension.

Yours faithfully,

Steve Lowther

Owner, CEO, HR Department, Workshop Manager, Senior Engineer, Tea Boy, Complaints Department and Employee of the Month (for the 37th consecutive year).

Mobility Scooter Batteries & the Hot Weather ☀️🔋
With temperatures climbing this week, a few simple precautions can help mobility scooter and powerchair batteries last longer:
🔹 Charge as normal – Hot weather does not mean charging less often. Keep batteries fully charged after use.
🔹 Avoid direct sunlight – If possible, park your scooter in the shade or indoors. Batteries and electronics don't enjoy sitting in 30°C+ heat all day.
🔹 Let hot batteries cool before charging – If you've just returned from a long journey, give the batteries 15–30 minutes to cool before plugging in.
🔹 Check water ingress covers – Summer thunderstorms can arrive quickly. Make sure charger ports and tiller covers are fitted correctly.
🔹 Watch battery range – Very hot weather can sometimes reduce efficiency, especially on older batteries.
🔹 Never leave chargers covered – Chargers need airflow. Don't place clothing, cushions, or bags over them while charging.
🔹 Lithium batteries – Generally cope better with heat than AGM/GEL batteries, but they still shouldn't be left baking in a conservatory or vehicle.
The biggest killer of mobility scooter batteries isn't heat – it's leaving them partially discharged. Keep them fully charged and they'll thank you for it.
The Mobility Wizard's Tip: If your batteries are more than 3 years old and struggling in the heat, it may be time for a professional battery capacity test rather than guessing.

According to the BBC, we're apparently facing temperatures normally only found on the surface of the sun this week. 🌞
As a result, I will be taking extreme precautions and wearing my emergency hot-weather survival kit:
🩳 Shorts
👕 T-shirt
🕶️ Sunglasses
After listening to the forecasts, I've also considered carrying extra supplies such as an ice cream and a cold can of Coke.
Being a Yorkshireman, I still refuse to call 28°C a "heatwave" — that's just a decent summer's day!
So if you see me servicing scooters around South Wales this week, don't panic. The BBC may be predicting the end of civilisation, but I'll be carrying on as normal... just with slightly whiter legs on display than the public are used to seeing.
