🌡️ Hot weather and medications – what you need to know 💊💧
Some medications can affect how well your body regulates temperature, which can increase the risk of becoming unwell during hot weather.

If you’re taking regular medication this week, remember to:

💧 Stay hydrated – drink fluids regularly throughout the day
🧊 Keep cool – stay in the shade, keep indoor spaces cool and avoid the hottest part of the day
👩‍⚕️ Ask for advice – speak to your doctor or pharmacist if you have any questions about your medication and hot weather

Extra care may be especially important for older adults, young children and people with long-term health conditions.

👨‍👧‍👦💙 Happy Father’s Day! 💙👨‍👦
Today we celebrate all fathers, grandfathers, stepfathers, carers, and father figures who support and care for their families every day. Father’s Day is a chance to show appreciation for their love, guidance, and resilience, whether through a kind word, quality time, or a simple thank you.

🩺 Health reminder for dads..
While we celebrate, it’s also a good time for fathers to prioritise their health. Simple steps like booking regular GP check-ups, staying active, eating well, and looking after mental health can make a big difference. Our practice is here to support men’s health at every stage of life.

💬 Show your appreciation…
Take a moment today to reach out to the father figures in your life, a call, a card, or even just a heartfelt “thank you” can make all the difference!

🌬️🍃It’s National Clean Air Day 🍃🌬️
This National Clean Air Day, we’re joining practices, organisations and communities across the country to raise awareness about the impact of air quality on our health, and how we can all take steps to improve the air we breathe. Clean air isn’t just good for the planet, it’s essential for health and wellbeing, especially for people with asthma, heart and lung conditions, children and older adults.

🩺 Why it matters for our health..
Poor air quality can contribute to respiratory and cardiovascular disease, worsen symptoms of asthma and COPD, and affect overall health. The NHS and public health teams recognise air pollution as a major environmental risk to health, which is why reducing exposure and supporting cleaner air is a priority for healthier communities.

🚶‍♂️🚴‍♀️ What we can do together…
National Clean Air Day is a chance for all of us to take collective action, from walking & cycling short journeys, to choosing low emission travel, cutting car idling outside schools and workplaces, and supporting green spaces in our neighbourhoods. Every small change helps improve the air for everyone.

💚 At our practice…
We’re committed to promoting good respiratory health and supporting our patients with information and services that help reduce the impact of air pollution. If you have concerns about asthma, breathing symptoms or symptoms you think may be affected by air quality, talk to our team, we’re here to help.

🌟It’s Loneliness Awareness Week 🧡
This week is Loneliness Awareness Week, a campaign dedicated to reducing the stigma around the natural human emotion and encouraging open, honest conversations about loneliness and connection.
Hosted by the Marmalade Trust, it’s about recognising that loneliness can affect anyone and finding ways to build supportive, compassionate communities.

🧠 Why it matters for health:
Loneliness isn’t just an emotional experience; it can impact physical and mental wellbeing if it becomes persistent. We recognise the importance of tackling loneliness and social isolation as part of overall health and wellbeing, and we’re here to support you.

🤝 We can help..
At our practice we have social prescribers who can:
• Listen to what matters to you.
• Link you with local activities, groups and resources that help build connections.
• Support you in finding meaningful opportunities to meet people and feel part of a community.

👋 Let’s talk and connect… Whether it's joining a group, trying a hobby, or just having a chat, small connections can make a big difference.

👉 Find out more and join the campaign: https://www.lonelinessawarenessweek.org/

You can complete a self referral form to one of our Social Prescribers on our website if you’re interested in finding out how they could support you!

🌍🕊️ It’s Refugee Week 🕊️🌍
This week we join communities across the UK to celebrate Refugee Week, honouring the contributions, creativity and resilience of refugees and people seeking sanctuary. Refugee Week is an annual UK wide festival held around World Refugee Day that celebrates the strength and courage of people who have had to rebuild their lives in a new place, bringing rich skills, culture and hope to our communities.

💙 How this relates to health and the NHS:
• The NHS is one of the first points of contact for many refugees and people seeking asylum, providing healthcare services in the same way as for other UK residents, including GP care, appointments and community support.
• Refugee healthcare pathways and support help ensure people have access to the services they need for their wellbeing, including physical and mental health support as they settle into new lives.
• Organisations and initiatives across the health system, including dedicated programmes, help support refugee healthcare professionals to continue their careers in the NHS, strengthening our workforce and improving community care for all.

🤝 Why we mark this week:
Refugee Week is an opportunity to recognise the value, dignity and resilience refugees bring to our communities, and to challenge barriers so that everyone, no matter where they come from, can access care, opportunity and support.

📣It’s Learning Disability Week 🧠💙
This week we’re proud to support Learning Disability Week, a national awareness week dedicated to highlighting the real life experiences of people with a learning disability, and what matters most to them, their families and carers. It's an important reminder to listen, understand and include everyone in our communities.

🔹 What is it?
Learning Disability Week takes place annually during the third week of June. It’s a time to raise awareness about the challenges many people with a learning disability still face, as well as to celebrate their achievements and contributions to society.

🔹 Why it matters:
People with a learning disability can experience barriers in health, work, education and daily life, from misunderstanding or stigma to difficulties accessing services and support. Learning Disability Week encourages everyone to challenge these barriers, promote equality and ensure that people are seen, heard and valued.

💬 How you can help:
• Talk about and share information on learning disabilities.
• Celebrate the talents and strengths of people with a learning disability.
• Promote inclusive attitudes and reasonable adjustments in care and community life.
