This week is Cervical Screening Awareness Week, a vitally important aspect of preventative healthcare. In the UK there are over 3000 new cases of cervical cancer each year, while 99.8% are preventable. Screening identifies risk early, and early detection is paramount to preventing further problems.
It is estimated that a third of patients invited for screening don't book their appointments.

STAFF TRAINING DAY

🕐 1:00pm – 6:30pm

The practice will be operating with a reduced team while staff attend training.

Please note that the Dispensary will be completely closed during this period, including the medication telephone line.

⚠️ IMPORTANT INFORMATION

During this time, we will only be providing urgent same-day care. The reception desk will be closed.

Patients will still be able to contact the practice by telephone; however, phone line capacity will be reduced to enable staff attendance at the training session.

Please only contact the practice between 1:00pm and 6:30pm if you require urgent same-day medical attention.

Contacting the practice for non-urgent matters during this time may prevent patients with urgent needs from getting through to a member of the team promptly.

Routine appointments cannot be booked/made between 1:00pm and 6:30pm on this day.

Dear patients,

We have become aware of patients being contacted centrally by Primary Care Support England (PCSE) asking them to confirm their address and advising they may be removed from their GP practice list.
We would like to confirm that this action has not been taken by the practice.

We are concerned that our patients may be deregistered from the practice meaning they will not have a GP practice and would then have to re-register if they become unwell.

We urge any patients contacted to please respond to PCSE with their address to avoid the unsafe interruption of their GP registration and their care.

May Bank Holiday Opening Hours 🌼

Newent Doctors Practice and its dispensary will be closed on Monday 25 May for the Bank Holiday.

We will reopen as normal on Tuesday 26 May.

The work our nursing team completes is vital to our patients, the practice as a whole and is a foundation of the quality care we aim to provide. INTERNATIONAL NURSES DAY 12TH MAY 2026

Today is International Nurses Day.

Nursing is a global profession. Across the world, nursing is highly skilled and safety-critical, requiring exceptional dedication, professionalism and expertise.

At a time of increasing geopolitical instability, shrinking development funding, and political pressure on health systems worldwide, the nursing community globally faces shared challenges that transcend borders.

Global nursing solidarity is increasingly important.

Nursing staff worldwide face many similar issues; staff shortages and compromised patient care, as well as a lack of value for the role of nursing staff.

We thank our practice nurses for the care and dedication they continually give to our patients everyday.

In the UK, Bowel Cancer accounts for 12% of new cancer, made up of over 48,000 cases (2019, 2021-2022). Sadly in 2022-2024, there were 17,700 deaths from Bowel Cancer in the UK, but 54% of cases are preventable. Early detection is one of the most important aspects to help combat cancer.
