It has been an absolute privilege to have worked as a GP in Newent for all these years. I have met and cared for so many wonderful people along the way.

Thursday 20 August 2026 – Practice Update

Power Interruption

There will be a short period over lunchtime, which we anticipate will be between 1:00pm and 1:30pm, when the power will be turned off.

We have made arrangements to ensure that patients can still contact the practice during this period; however, please be aware that there will be reduced telephone capacity while the power is off.

We ask that patients only contact the surgery between 1:00pm and 1:30pm if they require urgent medical assistance. Telephone lines will resume normal service after this time.

For health and safety reasons, the front door to the practice will be closed during the power interruption. If you need to speak to us urgently, please knock on the door and a member of the reception team will come and assist you.

Please note that we will be unable to answer routine enquiries or book appointments in person while the power is off.

Internal Works at the Practice

Today, we are having some internal works carried out within the practice. We are aiming to keep disruption to patients to a minimum, and all booked appointments will continue as planned.

Roadworks

Roadworks continue directly outside the practice. Please allow extra time for your journey and take care when accessing the site.

We apologise for any inconvenience these works may cause and thank you for your patience and understanding.

🚧 Roadworks – Access to Newent Doctors Practice

Please be aware that substantial roadworks will be taking place from next week 17th August 2026,, which may affect access to Newent Doctors Practice.

Electrical cabling is being installed from Watery Lane to Lewell Street Car Park.

What you need to know:

- Holts Road will be closed during the works.

- Watery Lane will have traffic control, with the road reduced to one lane.

- Excavation will take place directly in front of the surgery car park entrance. The car park will remain open, but only one vehicle at a time will be able to enter or leave.

- A pedestrian walkway with ramps will be provided, so patients will still be able to access the surgery safely.

- Disabled parking will remain available. Patients using these spaces may need to stop and request access to the disabled parking area.

Please allow additional time for your journey and expect some delays around the surgery.

The works are currently expected to take up to four weeks, although the project manager is hopeful they will be completed sooner.

Once the work on Watery Lane is completed, the road will reopen and the traffic management will move to the High Street.

We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause and thank you for your patience while these essential works are carried out.

We expect the surgery to remain open as usual throughout the works.

This week is Cervical Screening Awareness Week, a vitally important aspect of preventative healthcare. In the UK there are over 3000 new cases of cervical cancer each year, while 99.8% are preventable. Screening identifies risk early, and early detection is paramount to preventing further problems.
It is estimated that a third of patients invited for screening don't book their appointments.
