Keeping Abreast was established in September 2007 by patients Anna Beckingham and Beverley Birritteri and Breast Reconstruction Nurse Specialist Ruth Harcourt. They recognised that there was a great need for women, both newly diagnosed with breast cancer facing the possibility of mastectomy, and also women further down the line who are considering reconstructive surgery, to be able to meet and tal

k to other women who have been through similar experiences. Keeping Abreast offer;
- A national support network
- The opportunity to meet women facing similar issues
- Information, support and practical help
- The chance to see results of reconstructive surgery
- Support for women with the BRCA gene from 'Nick of Time'

Movement, Strength, Confidence… are you looking to get more active but don’t know how to start?
Mission Remission is a survivor‑led charity supporting people to rebuild life beyond cancer, and Mission Possible is its movement programme designed to help you reconnect with your body safely and confidently after treatment.
At Keeping Abreast, were excited to be working with Mission Remission to offer you some taster sessions, so that you can try out FREE Mission Possible activities in Norwich.
Many people have told Mission Remission that even thinking about physical activity again after cancer or surgery can feel daunting. That’s why their sessions are fully adaptable, inclusive and offer a welcoming space to explore movement at your own pace.
You’ll be supported by Chelle Kime, Personal Trainer, breast cancer survivor and Cancer Rehab Exercise Specialist. Chelle had cancer treatment in 2022 so understands first-hand how fatigue, limited range of movement, fear of injury, the effects of scar‑tissue tightness/cording, loss of flexibility and nerve damage can affect confidence, and she’ll guide you through safe, simple movements designed to rebuild strength, boost energy and support your well-being.
These sessions are fully inclusive and suitable for everyone, and all exercises will be adapted to your mobility, comfort level and confidence. The sessions will run for an hour and that will include an introduction, dynamic stretches, warm‑up and cool‑down, and will be suitable for all levels of fitness with modifications shown throughout.
Every week will feature a different style of movement including Boxfit, low‑impact circuits and strength building – no pressure, no expectations – just a fun and friendly space where you can meet others who understand life after cancer.

Thurs 10th Sept – 6pm to 7pm
Thurs 17th Sept – 6pm to 7pm
Wed 23rd Sept – 1pm to 2pm

Another fantastic event with our friends at Boghopper Races Ltd ! 🩷💚

Thank you to Janice, Kevin and to all the Boghopper's Volunteers for yet another fantastic event and for always making us feel such a part of the team. These events are always so uplifting, fun and community driven! We were incredibly inspired and moved by several of the runners, one of whom this was her first run since finishing chemo, another who walked in preparation for her heart surgery and many who supported one another with laughs and smiles along the way! Always a highlight our in events calendar so watch this space for plans next year... 👀🐸

What a lovely day we had at the Stalham Poppy Centre in Norfolk last week! The Keeping Abreast Stalham Workshop & Well-Being Day went down a treat, with the attendees enjoying a guided hand-massage from Kim at Tropic Skincare, a lovely lunch from Cafe Charlotte on Stalham High Street, a summer wreath-making class from Hannah at Dairy Barns and then a relaxation session from Clare at Yoga Breeze. This feel-good community event was very kindly funded by the North Norfolk Health & Well-Being Partnership Fund and it was a great way to relax, enjoy one another's company and find out more about the charity. And a big thank you to Jo and David Ford too for bringing along their lovely craft stall.
