Last Vinyasa class before is back.

Had to make it memorable.

So we did a core workout to Total Eclipse of the Heart.

Full commitment. Lights low. Bonnie Tyler absolutely belting it. Everyone holding plank and boat while dramatically mouthing the words.

They smashed it. And they sang along. Every single one of them.

That’s the thing about a good class. It doesn’t have to be serious to be effective. You can be absolutely suffering through a hollow hold and still be having the time of your life.

Your old playlist is medicine. And there’s actual science behind it.

When you hear music tied to a specific time in your life, your brain reads it as a safety signal. Dopamine and oxytocin rise. Cortisol and adrenaline drop.

It’s not living in the past. It’s called autobiographical memory recall, and the research points to it lowering stress, reducing loneliness, and giving you a sense of continuity — the feeling that your life makes sense.

I keep a reset playlist for hard days. Songs tied to moments I felt safe, free, or really happy. Ten minutes, no phone, just the music.

It’s one of the quietest, most effective nervous system tools I know — and nobody can tell you’re using it.

(Worth saying: the research here is still early and the mechanisms are complex. But the effect is real, and it costs nothing to try.)

Strength is overrated. So is flexibility.
The thing that actually keeps you moving well for life is something most people have never heard of, proprioception. Your body’s ability to sense where it is in space and what it’s doing.
It’s why some people recover from a stumble and others go down. Why your balance is better some days than others. Why one yoga pose clicks today and felt impossible last week.
And here’s the bit nobody tells you, yoga is one of the best ways to train it.
Slow, deliberate movement gives your nervous system time to register what’s happening. Long holds force you to feel your body, not just move it. Balancing poses, transitions, weight shifts, breath work,every part of a yoga practice is sharpening that internal GPS.
It’s not the flexibility that makes yoga people move well as they age. It’s this.
The strongest people in any room aren’t doing the fanciest things. They’re paying attention.

I’m not going to lie, I was nervous this morning. Then I stepped on my mat, started talking, and the sun came out from behind the clouds. I took that as a sign. 🌤️ To everyone who came today, honestly, you made it. The wind was blowing, the sun was shining, and we were doing yoga in a castle. It just felt right. Yoga Within the Walls 2 is coming. Same place. Hopefully same sun. 👀🏰
