*Coasters Update*
Multiple apologies ... for the delay in posts ... for the long post ... for spelling Herne Bay incorrectly ... and for the naff syncing between sound, video and captions. I almost deleted it but then figured it was best to post this than nothing at all. 🙈

Essex is massive in terms of coastal miles. The longest county coastline in the whole country I believe. It's also full of dead spots and pubs with no WiFi. I've been kindly given a little mini router by the lovely Kerry and Jay in Maylandsea, and today I bought an unlimited SIM for it. Hopefully, it'll mean I can start the long road to catching up!

Good news is that the donations keep coming in and we're already over £6k now towards our £10k target.

HeadRightOut hugs to you all! 💚💙 x

Thank yous to our brand partners and sponsors: Páramo, Osprey, Suunto, Pacerpoles, Taunton Leisure, ZOLEO, and Auxilia Financial Services and a new partner on board ... Altra! (boots)

🎭✨️ Our lovely friends in the Ilminster Belles are performing an evening of Songs from the Musicals, in aid of our charity fundraising pot for Dorset and Somerset Air Ambulance! ✨️🎭

The Callington Community Gospel Choir are attending as the guest performance. I know this is going to be an amazing evening, and I'm sad we're not going to be there, because I'm certain I'd be singing along to ALL of the songs, ALL evening!

In order for this to be a success, the Ilminster Belles need bums on pews in the church of St Peter and St Paul in South Petherton. It's happening this Saturday, 13th June. Even if you can't be there, please, please share this post or the story. Tag or share with your friends, family and wider network too.

Details of how to purchase tickets are on the graphic, or scan the QR code with another phone and you can purchase tickets from ticket source right there! Can't wait to hear which songs they sing. I'm off to Climb Ev'ry Mountain and hopefully won't end up Under the Sea ... 🎶 🤣🙈

Day 68. Westgate-on-Sea to Swalecliffe.

The day started with rain hammering down outside the West Bay Café while Mike and I squeezed ourselves, our rucksacks and a charging cable into a very small space. Two poached eggs on toast and a hot drink later, we were on our way.

The birds put on a show all day for us. I noticed the starlings sounded exactly like an old computer modem trying to connect to the internet. Who remembers that?

We met lots of people along the coast. Lynette, a Bay Inspector celebrating her 60th year, stopped for a chat and a selfie. Lucy and her dog Jess came to say hello at Minnis Bay Café, and Joy shared stories of walking with us. At Herne Bay, Ertha and Neil donated part of a giant Aero bar, which definitely helped morale.

Reculver was off-the-scale stunning, despite the rain. We huddled over peanut butter wraps and satsumas beside the ruins before Mike improved lunch options considerably with a Cream Egg, a Snickers and a Twix.

As we entered Herne Bay Wetherspoons, Andy and Jacci stopped us, bought us a drink and donated £20 for Dorset & Somerset Air Ambulance. Andy shared about Jacci's family's connection to the Saxon Shore Way, which made the conversation even more special.

We walked into the darkness, stopping briefly to imagine what the huge structure a mile or so out into the water might be. A friendly toilet attendant told us it was the pier head, no longer connected. That would have been a long pier! We finally reached Swalecliffe in the sunset afterglow just before 9pm.

Miles today: 12.65
Total miles: 458.35

Another excellent Essex welcome! Seriously, this marina bar and cafe is THE best coastal venue for all ages, for miles. We were treated like royalty from the moment we stepped through the door. Alan, Tracy and Paul, pictured here, looked after us all evening and into the next morning too. 🥹🥰 Blackwater Quay xx

Mike and Zoe have arrived at the Blackwater Quay. They’ve walked from Poole Harbour to here in 115 days. They are raising money for Dorset and Somerset Air Ambulance. They’re pitching up tonight in the garden. 115 days so far 816 miles. Please support there mission. They’re a great couple Head Right Out

The day after my birthday, we met a lovely family near Shoebury Common. The video explains more, but I regretted saying no to singing a song for Kathy.

Kathy (and Dudley, Beverley and Kya), this is for you!

There's a little wind noise at the beginning and the sync is out a fraction. I can't seem to change that ... sorry! I hope you enjoy it anyhoo.
