❗️𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝘂𝗽𝗱𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗱 𝗛𝘆𝗽𝗲𝗿𝘁𝗲𝗻𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗖𝗮𝘀𝗲 𝗙𝗶𝗻𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗦𝗲𝗿𝘃𝗶𝗰𝗲 𝘀𝗽𝗲𝗰 𝗶𝘀 𝗻𝗼𝘄 𝗶𝗻 𝗲𝗳𝗳𝗲𝗰𝘁 ❗️

A quick reminder that the updated version of the Hypertension Case-Finding Service (HCFS) specification has come into effect today, 𝗧𝗵𝘂𝗿𝘀𝗱𝗮𝘆 𝟯𝗿𝗱 𝗦𝗲𝗽𝘁𝗲𝗺𝗯𝗲𝗿.

It is imperative that you read the spec if you haven't already done so, and make sure your team is familiar with the changes too. Key changes include:

⦿ Patients are only eligible to access the service once every five years
⦿ Patients who have already been diagnosed with hypertension can no longer be referred into a community pharmacy for a blood pressure check
⦿ Four off-site clinic blood pressure clinics can be organised per year, per pharmacy but prior permission must be sought

We’re delighted to be collaborating with the team at tuli.health including Anoushka Guli and Claire Dixon, who will be delivering a phlebotomy training session in the afternoon which is now fully booked. The aim is to give pharmacy owners practical ideas and actions they can take back to their businesses to identify new opportunities, grow their income and make better use of the services they can offer

💡10.50am: Lindsey Fairbrother, Chief Officer, Community Pharmacy Shropshire, former pharmacy contractor and Committee member, Community Pharmacy England: "But how else do I make money?" Drawing on her experiences running a successful pharmacy, Lindsey will give insights into where to focus and what to stop doing to make your pharmacy more successful

📝 11.10am: Minesh Parbat FRCPharm, Chief Pharmacist and Clinical Director of Strategic Medicines Commissioning, NHS Shropshire, Telford and Wrekin and NHS Stoke on Trent and Staffordshire focusing on NHS commissioning for the future including independent prescribing and the part community pharmacy can play

Telford & Wrekin Council's Healthy Lifestyles and Stop Smoking Service would like to thank local community pharmacies for their vital support in helping residents access ni****ne replacement therapy (NRT) through the Lung Cancer Screening Programme.

Special thanks go to 's Cemist (Oakengates), Pharmacy Hollinswood Pharmacy, Peak Pharmacy (Newport), and Woodside Pharmacy for their invaluable contribution to helping local people quit smoking.

Since Spring 2026, the programme has generated 1,121 referrals to the Stop Smoking Service, demonstrating the significant impact of the Lung Cancer Screening Programme in encouraging residents to take positive steps towards better health.

Through this pathway, participating pharmacies have processed an impressive 1,343 NRT requests through PharmOutcomes We would like to thank pharmacy teams for their patience during the early stages of the programme and for their continued support. We have received a great deal of positive feedback from clients about the accessibility and quality of the service provided.

This partnership is helping to change lives. Many successful quitters had been smoking for more than 40 years before receiving support through the programme. One resident, who had smoked since the age of six, successfully quit after being referred to the service following a Lung Health Check.
We would like to thank all participating pharmacies for their continued commitment and dedication to supporting residents on their quit-smoking journey. Together, we are helping more people live healthier, smoke-free lives.

To receive supplies of childhood flu vaccines ahead of the 1st October 2026 service commencement date, you must have registered to provide the Childhood Flu Vaccination Service via MYS by 𝟭𝟭.𝟱𝟵𝗽𝗺 𝗼𝗻 𝟯𝟭𝘀𝘁 𝗔𝘂𝗴𝘂𝘀𝘁 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟲.

You must use the NHS Business Services Authority’s Manage Your Service (MYS) portal to register to provide the 2026/27 Childhood Flu Vaccination.

If you provided the Childhood Flu Vaccination Service in 2025/26, you are required to re-register if they intend to provide the service in 2026/27.

Pharmacy owners can register after 31st August 2026, however, it is not guaranteed you will receive childhood flu vaccine in time for the Childhood Flu Vaccination Service commencement date.

The final deadline to register to provide the Childhood Flu Vaccination Service in 2026/27 is 11.59pm on 30th November 2026.

It's our pleasure to introduce you to Tom pharmacy manager at Cleobury Pharmacy in Kidderminster and one of our fabulous Neighbourhood Health Champions here in Shropshire.

Tom has already been making an impact starting with the local Cleobury Festival where he promoted Pharmacy First and received some really positive feedback from many patients.

Commented Tom: "Our main objective was to raise awareness of Pharmacy First which we managed, but I think the real positive that came from the day was connecting with the community on a whole and for them to see us as part of it."

‼️ 𝗡𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝗕𝗼𝗼𝗸𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗦𝗲𝗿𝘃𝗶𝗰𝗲 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗙𝗹𝘂 𝘁𝗼 𝗼𝗽𝗲𝗻 𝗼𝗻 𝟭𝟳𝘁𝗵 𝗔𝘂𝗴𝘂𝘀𝘁 ‼️

NHS England has published an operational letter for the seasonal flu vaccination programme. It confirms the opening of the National Booking Service (NBS) 𝗲𝗮𝗿𝗹𝗶𝗲𝗿 𝘁𝗵𝗮𝗻 𝗯𝗲𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗲, on 17th August. This early opening follows Community Pharmacy England’s request for earlier opening of the booking system, following feedback on this from pharmacy owners. NBS will remain open until 31st March 2027.

NHS England has also published the 2026/27 service specification which CPE agreed with them for the community pharmacy Childhood Flu Vaccination Service.

This follows the announcement in June of the expansion of the Childhood Flu Vaccination Service to additional cohorts and an agreed increase in the fee for provision of the service.

Our intrepid chief officer, Lindsey Fairbrother, is back from flying the community pharmacy flag at the British Association of Dermatologists conference and feeling inspired!

Says Lindsey: "The conference highlighted just how much progress is being made in understanding the skin barrier, the microbiome and the science underpinning effective skincare. What stood out most for me was the focus on practical, evidence-based approaches that pharmacy teams can use to help patients manage dry and eczema-prone skin with confidence.

"Many thanks to the Aveeno team for the hospitality and for supporting valuable educational conversations throughout the conference. And a huge thank you to the organisers, speakers and everyone I had the chance to meet. Here's to continuing the conversations long after the conference ends."

Community Pharmacy England is hosting a free webinar on the regulatory provisions and issues around pharmacy core and supplementary opening hours on 𝗠𝗼𝗻𝗱𝗮𝘆 𝟮𝟬𝘁𝗵 𝗝𝘂𝗹𝘆 𝗳𝗿𝗼𝗺 𝟳.𝟯𝟬-𝟵𝗽𝗺.

The session will explain the current requirements, notifications and applications, market entry issues around opening hours, explain how ICBs and NHS Resolution are assessing applications/appeals, and provide practical guidance on the evidence to include with applications.
