🌡️ ℹ️ A red heat-health alert is in place, with temperatures expected to hit 35 degrees centigrade in Wolverhampton from today until Thursday - and we're being urged to take simple steps to keep ourselves and others safe.

The hot weather could have a real impact, especially on older people, young children, and anyone with existing health conditions such as heart or breathing problems. Top tips include:

☀️ Look out for people more at risk in hot weather
☀️ Check in on neighbours, friends and family who may struggle in the heat
☀️ Keep your home cool by closing curtains or blinds in sunny rooms, and opening windows when it’s cooler
☀️ Use fans and turn off unused lights and electrical items
☀️ Store medicines as instructed to prevent them overheating
☀️ Drink plenty of fluids and limit alcohol
☀️ Avoid going out between 11am and 3pm if possible
☀️ Stay in the shade, wear loose clothing and use sunscreen
☀️ Exercise or walk pets in the morning or evening when it’s cooler
☀️ Never leave children, older people or pets in a parked car
☀️ Take care near water and avoid swimming without a lifeguard
☀️ Watch for signs of heat illness like dizziness, headaches or feeling sick.
