What if being harder on yourself is actually what’s keeping you stuck?

Many people believe that if they’re more critical, more disciplined or more demanding of themselves, things will finally change.

But self-criticism often creates more pressure, more shame and more isolation.

And when you’re already struggling, those things can make it even harder to care for yourself.

If speaking kindly to yourself feels impossible right now, start here:

1. Notice your inner critic and ask, “Would I say this to someone I care about?”
2. Speak to yourself as you would a friend who was struggling.
3. Remember that being human means finding things difficult sometimes. And that is OK.

Self-compassion can feel, especially if you’ve spent years motivating yourself through criticism.

But that is why it has a big impact in recovery.

Remember the problem isn't our bodies. The problem was the assumption that if something didn't fit, their body must be at fault. shopping can feel less like finding something to wear and more like having your body judged under a spotlight.
But the cut of clothes are supposed to fit you. You are not supposed to cut to fit the clothes.
Next time something doesn't fit, consider asking yourself:
"Is my body the problem, or is this simply not the right style, shape, or size for me?"
That small shift in perspective can make a huge difference.

Is your hunger overwhelming and confusing. Years of diet culture and fear of food means your sensitive signals have been ignored.

Hunger often is not allowed and instead it’s followed by questions, doubts, rules, fears and negotiations.

If you recognise yourself in this reel, I want you to know that it is possible to learn to trust your body and your hunger again.

Hunger after all is biological and was never meant to be a debate.

Everyone has their own opinion about what “healthy” means, yet not enough people talk about balance.

Balance means including protein, fats and carbohydrates in a way that works for you and your body and not being swayed by social media trends.
True health is not just about what’s on your plate. It’s about balancing your body, your mind and your relationship with food.
Social media influencers may sound convincing, but confidence is not the same as science. Your health deserves more than quick fixes and extremes. #

Breaking free from food rules does not mean…

• You’ve “let yourself go”
• You don’t care about your health
• You’re out of control
• You eat junk food and desserts all day long

What it does mean…

• You can socialise in peace
• You can spend less time obsessing over food
• You have more space for the things you love
• You’re less consumed by guilt and mental noise
• Food no longer controls every decision
• You can nourish yourself without fear

A life ruled by food rules can look “healthy” on the outside while feeling exhausting on the inside.

We all deserve peace with food ❤️. .

Somewhere along the way food became a weekly cycle of “starting again” instead of something that supports you and is enjoyable.

The constant cycle of restriction, followed by bingeing, followed by shame. It’s what often happens when the body and mind are stuck in an all-or-nothing relationship with food.

The more rigid the rules become, the more food can start to take over your thoughts, emotions and decisions.

You deserve more than spending your life:
– starting over
– negotiating with yourself around food
– feeling “good” or “bad” based on what you ate
– waiting for Monday to feel in control again

We don't need to be “perfect” with food.
We need something more flexible and sustainable.

A life where food is part of your life, not the centre of it.
