Task Shifting and Safe Surgical Care in Rural Adamawa, Cameroon: A Cross-Sectional Provider Survey

Congratulations to the Authors: Dr. Peter Mattew George & Dr. Megbar Dessalegn

This study examines task-shifting practices, safety concerns, and capacity-building priorities among surgical and anaesthesia providers in rural Adamawa, Cameroon.

The findings highlight the important contribution of task shifting to surgical access while identifying gaps in formal training, supervision, clearly defined scopes of practice, equipment, and referral systems. The authors emphasise the need for structured task sharing supported by competency-based training, ongoing mentorship, and verified patient-outcome monitoring.

Artificial Intelligence for Automated Detection of Large Vessel Occlusion: State of the Art, Clinical Applications and Future Perspectives

Author: Dr. Ishaan Bakshi

This narrative review explores the evolving role of artificial intelligence in acute stroke care, examining AI-assisted detection of large vessel occlusion, diagnostic performance, clinical and workflow applications, commercially available platforms, implementation challenges, and future perspectives.

The article highlights the potential of AI to support faster image triage, specialist notification, thrombectomy activation, and interhospital coordination, while emphasising that AI should augment, rather than replace, clinician interpretation.

Imagine walking into an operating room in 1901. There were no monitors, electrosurgical units, masks, antibiotics, or any of the technology that seems indispensable to surgery today.

And yet, there was something very similar to what we see today: a surgical team, a patient, and an audience of students trying to learn. This image captures a surgery observed by medical students at the Cooper Medical College at Stanford in 1901, a striking portrait of how surgical training took place over a century ago.
