🌍 Africa’s diaspora is a major economic force.
Migrant remittances to Africa exceeded US$100 billion in 2025, surpassing official development assistance and foreign direct investment. Beyond providing vital support to families, remittances can contribute to investment, economic resilience and sustainable development.
Today in Maseru, the Government of Lesotho, with technical support from the Economic Commission for Africa, is bringing together stakeholders to explore how the country can better leverage remittances and the wider contributions of its diaspora for national development.
The discussions are focusing on the policies, frameworks and practical tools needed to strengthen diaspora engagement and channel remittances towards productive investment in Lesotho.
