When you use labels to understand something, do they sometimes stop you from understanding it?

In my new blog, I share my point of view on Chinese medicine, science, spirituality, and the labels I’ve carried along the way.

Comment LABEL and I’ll send you the link, or find it in my bio💛

The principles of Chinese medicine were written more than 2,000 years ago, yet they have proved remarkably adaptable to a changing world.

I think part of that comes from the simplicity of Taiji ☯️, the idea that yin and yang describe the constant cycles and relationships within nature and life.

Yin and Yang are completely different, yet they emerge from each other, exist within each other, and cannot exist without each other.

These ideas developed from observing nature and can be applied to different environments, different people, and different stages of life.

But adaptability is not the only reason. Chinese medicine also developed through generations of observation, recording, questioning, and refining. Generations of accumulated and documented clinical experience became part of the tradition.

For me, the combination of a flexible philosophy and a long history of clinical observation is what makes the question of its relevance today so interesting 💛

The individualized approach is one of the things I value most about Chinese medicine.

Its principles were written more than 2,000 years ago, yet they have proved remarkably adaptable to a changing world.

So maybe the next question is:
Can a 2,000-year-old medical system still be relevant today?

Have you ever used the word placebo to mean “it’s fake”?

For years, that’s exactly how the word has been used.

But medicine has gradually changed the way it
understands the placebo effect. Today, a placebo response is recognized as a real brain-body phenomenon rather than an evidence that a treatment has failed.

Whatever your opinion of acupuncture, I think this shift is fascinating. It reminds us how much we still have to learn about the relationship between the brain and the body 💛

What does the word placebo mean to you?
