What will we do?
We’ll create a botanical watercolor painting with photos as our reference. We’ll start the day with a pencil drawing of our flower, which we’ll use as the basis for our watercolor painting. We’ll cover some basic watercolor techniques (wet-on-wet, glazing, etc.) and also a bit of theory (color theory, tonal values, etc.). Then we’ll start building layers and expressing form and color. We’ll work in a small group, and everyone will receive individual guidance. If there’s still time left, we can use some techniques for some more playful and personal touches: splatters, smudges, large brushstrokes. At the end of the day, everyone will either have a finished watercolor, or you can finish it at home using the techniques you learned. You’ll receive a reader with information about the history of botanical painting, color mixing, tonal values, form expression, pencil drawing, and how to take photos of your flower.
