Meet our final speaker for the Women in Business Forum, Mary Devine, ONZM, Chief Executive of Foodstuffs South Island. 🎤

We asked Mary: "What's the best piece of advice you've received in your business journey?"

Here's what she had to say:

"Be bold in your ambition and back yourself. Too often, women feel we need to tick every box before putting ourselves forward for the next opportunity. We don't. Aim for the stars, and even if you don't get there, you might find yourself standing on top of a mountain! Trust what you bring to the table, and have confidence in your ability to learn and grow. The most rewarding chapters often start with having the courage to believe you're capable of more."

Bold, honest, and the perfect note to complete our incredible line-up. Alice Fitzgerald, Hon Nicola Grigg MP, and now Mary Devine, ONZM, three powerful voices, one unmissable evening.

Meet Hon Nicola Grigg MP, Minister for Women, and one of the incredible speakers joining our Women in Business Forum on 24 September. 🎤

As Minister for Women, Nicola's focus is clear:

"My top priority as Minister for Women is to advance women into higher paid roles to drive their economic empowerment and personal wealth. That's how we will reduce the gender pay gap and retirement savings gap. We've driven down the gender pay gap to the lowest it's been at 5.2 percent, but there's still more work to do. I encourage employers to use Gender Pay Gap toolkit and calculator to find out their pay gap and make a start on closing it."

The progression is real, but there's more to do, a reminder of why conversations like this matter.

Canterbury's economic story makes the headlines. On average and on paper we're doing well.

But averages hide as much as they reveal.

Some businesses are absorbing real pressure. Others are still growing, still exporting, still hiring.

That's exactly the picture we need to see clearly, not just the top line, but what's actually happening for businesses of every size and sector across the region.

Our Quarterly Canterbury Business Survey opens today. We want to hear from you, whatever your story looks like right now.

Complete the survey and you'll go in the draw to win a Health & Safety Refresher On-Demand course, valued at $400+GST.

Meet Alice Fitzgerald, Chief Executive of the , and our first panellist for the Women in Business Forum on 24 September. 🎤

We asked Alice: "What's the best piece of advice you've received in your business journey?"

Here's what she had to say:

"A successful business is built one conversation at a time. Make time to genuinely check in with people. Listen more than you speak, understand what's important to them, and find ways to add value. That lesson taught me that success is built on connection, communication, and relationships. I've worked across multiple industries since then, but those three things have been the foundation of every impact I've been able to make."

Simple advice, big impact, and just one of the stories you'll hear at the Forum this September.
