The DepEd HEMS Team of Camarines Sur, headed by Nurse Neil O. Caรฑas, continues to empower communities and healthcare providers through Basic Life Support (BLS) and Standard First Aid Trainings conducted across the Bicol Region.

As dedicated trainers and advocates of emergency preparedness, the team has been actively equipping learners, government personnel, and nurses with essential lifesaving skills that can make a critical difference during emergencies and disasters.

Nurses from different regions of the country gathered for the 10th Summer Conference of the Philippine Nurses Association (PNA) held at SMX Clark, Pampanga last May 12, 2026.

Representing the Schools Division Office of Camarines Sur were Nurses Kay Asis, Joyce Obis, and Rhodelyn Tortoles, who joined fellow nurses nationwide in meaningful discussions focused on strengthening the nursing profession and advancing healthcare practice.

The conference featured inspiring sessions on nursing autonomy, leadership, innovation, and the use of Artificial Intelligence and health technology in enhancing bedside care. Participants also took part in the Candle Lighting and Renewal of Pledge of Fidelity to the Nursing Profession โ€” a meaningful reminder of the commitment, compassion, and service that nurses continuously uphold.

Through activities like this, DepEd CamSur nurses continue to enhance their professional growth and commitment in providing quality health services to learners and school communities.

Another milestone for a healthier and safer learning environment was achieved through the Turn-Over Ceremony and Installation of the 13th AquaTower Facility for the WASH in Schools (WinS) Program at Anayan-Sagrada Elementary School, Pili East District, sponsored by Planet Water Foundation in partnership with Starbucks Philippines.

This meaningful initiative will greatly benefit the entire school community by providing access to clean and safe water, while strengthening hygiene and sanitation practices among learners and school personnel. The AquaTower facility also supports the continuous implementation of the WinS Program in promoting a healthy and child-friendly school environment.

With partners who believe in the value of education, health, and community development, our schools continue to move toward a brighter and healthier future for every learner.

Strengthening School Health: DepEd Camarines Sur and DOH CHD Bicol Sign MOA for OK sa DepEd โ€“ Healthy Learning Institutions

A significant milestone for school health in the province has been achieved as the Schools Division Office of Camarines Sur and the Department of Health โ€“ Center for Health Development Bicol formally signed a Memorandum of Agreement for the implementation of OK sa DepEd โ€“ Healthy Learning Institutions.

This partnership marks a strengthened commitment between the education and health sectors to ensure that schools become environments that actively promote the health, safety, and well-being of learners and education personnel.

Through this collaboration, both agencies will work together to enhance school health programs including health promotion, disease prevention, nutrition services, mental health support, and Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene initiativesโ€”all essential components of a healthy learning environment.

The MOA signing signifies a unified effort to institutionalize the Healthy Learning Institutions framework, recognizing that healthy learners are better prepared to learn, grow, and succeed.

More importantly, this partnership highlights the vital role of school health personnel whose dedication continues to drive the successful implementation of health programs in schools.

As DepEd Camarines Sur and DOH CHD Bicol strengthen their collaboration, this initiative paves the way for more coordinated health interventions, sustainable school health programs, and healthier futures for learners across the province.

The Bicol Oral Health Conference 2026 marked a significant convergence of oral health professionals and advocates across Region V. The event gathered dentists, dental hygienists, dental aides, and allied oral health workers from both government institutions and private practice, united by a shared commitment to advancing oral health services in the Bicol Region.

A key highlight of the conference was the presence of distinguished resource speakers who provided essential updates on regulatory and accreditation processes:

โ€ข A representative from the Department of Health Central Office discussed the regulations and licensing of dental facilities, emphasizing compliance standards, regulatory requirements, and quality assurance mechanisms to ensure safe, ethical, and quality dental practice.

โ€ข A representative from the Philippine Health Insurance Corporation (PhilHealth) presented updates on the accreditation of dental facilities, outlining current policies, procedural requirements, and opportunities for expanding access to oral health services through the national health insurance program.

The conference also highlighted strong institutional participation, notably the attendance of 22 dental personnel from Department of Education Schools Division of Camarines Sur (DepEd Camarines Sur). Their active engagement demonstrated the education sectorโ€™s commitment to strengthening school-based oral health programs and fostering inter-agency collaboration in promoting preventive dental care among learners.

Through meaningful discussions and collaborative exchange, the conference reinforced the importance of partnership between public and private sectors in building a more responsive, inclusive, and sustainable oral health system for the people of Region V.

The School Health Section of DepEd Camarines Sur successfully conducted the School Health Personnel Convergence and OK sa DepEd Program Implementation Review on January 29โ€“30 at Naga Regent Hotel.

The two-day activity brought together school health personnel with a shared commitment to strengthen capacity in promoting and protecting learner well-being across public schools.

โœจ Key orientations focused on:

๐Ÿง  HEADSSS Tool โ€“ enhancing adolescent psychosocial assessment and early identification of risks

๐Ÿ’ฌ CARS Mental Health Framework โ€“ strengthening mental health awareness, response, and referral mechanisms

๐Ÿซ Healthy Learning Institutions โ€“ promoting safe, supportive, and health-enabling school environments

Beyond knowledge-building, the convergence served as a platform for collaboration, alignment of practices, and reaffirmation of the vital role of school health personnel in advancing holistic learner development in line with Oplan Kalusugan sa DepEd.

Moving forward, strengthened competencies and shared insights continue to support the goal of healthier schools and safer learning spaces for every learner.

The DepEd Nurses of Camarines Sur participated in the Regional Re-Echo Workshop on the Universal Prevention Curriculum (UPC) on Substance Use: Family-Based Prevention Interventions, held on January 12โ€“16, 2026 at Modesta Resort, Irosin, Sorsogon.

The activity brought together DepEd administrators, School Health personnel, educators, and guidance counselors, from the 13 Schools Division Offices of Region V, highlighting a shared commitment to evidence-based, family-centered prevention strategies that promote the holistic well-being of learners and communities.

The training was led by resource speakers Bishop LJ Espeleta and Prof. Frances Grace Duka-Pante, whose expertise enriched participantsโ€™ understanding of effective family-based prevention interventions.

DepEd Camarines Sur was represented by nurse Christelle Kay G. Asis, together with Joyce S. Obis, Rhodelyn V. Tortoles, Reynaldo D. Aquino Jr., and Mar Ronelo B. Gueriรฑa, NDEP TWG members. Nurse Dennis Daza, NDEP Focal Person of Camarines Sur, also served as one of the workshop facilitators.

The activity was organized by DepEd Region V and hosted by the Schools Division Office of Sorsogon Province.

This initiative reaffirms DepEdโ€™s commitment to advancing preventive education and fostering safe, healthy, and resilient learning environments for every learner.
