Coordinator General OIC-COMSTECH, H.E. Prof. Dr. Muhammad Iqbal Choudhary, held a meeting with Prof. Dr. Peter Schwarz, President of the International Diabetes Federation (IDF) on Saturday October 10, 2026 at COMSTECH HQs to strengthen cooperation in diabetes prevention, research, healthcare capacity and professional training across OIC Member States.

The meeting was also attended by Prof. Dr. Abdul Basit, Secretary General of the Diabetic Association of Pakistan, and representatives of Riphah International University and Indus Hospital & Health Network and COMSTECH Officials.

Following a presentation on COMSTECH’s health initiatives, the two sides identified priority areas for cooperation, including halal health products, expansion of the Faith-Based Diabetes Prevention Programme, training of healthcare professionals through the COMSTECH Expert Service, and the promotion of safer and healthier environments.

The meeting also agreed that OIC-COMSTECH’s transnational membership of IDF would be considered at the Federation’s forthcoming meeting in April 2027.

Coordinator General OIC-COMSTECH, H.E. Prof. Dr. Muhammad Iqbal Choudhary, received H.E. Iqbal Hussain Khan, High Commissioner of Bangladesh to Pakistan, at the OIC-COMSTECH Secretariat, Islamabad.

The two sides discussed avenues for strengthening cooperation in higher education, scientific research and capacity building, with particular focus on the COMSTECH–University of Lahore (UoL) Fellowship Programme for Bangladesh.

During the meeting, it was noted that 28 Bangladeshi students have arrived, 84 have received their letters, and various fellowship opportunities remain available. Both sides agreed to extend the fellowship programme to benefit more students.

Discussions also covered the COMSTECH Bangladesh Programme and opportunities for expanding academic and scientific engagement.

The High Commissioner appreciated OIC-COMSTECH’s initiatives for Bangladesh and assured the High Commission’s support for advancing these collaborative efforts.

Four-Day COMSTECH Solar Power Training Successfully Concludes۔

The four-day OIC-COMSTECH Training Programme on “Youth Skill Development: Solar Power Solutions for Distributed Power Generation” successfully concluded today, October 8, 2026, at the OIC-COMSTECH Secretariat, Islamabad.

Participants received certificates upon completing the programme. Sharing their feedback, they thanked OIC-COMSTECH, the partner institutions, speakers and trainers for providing an enriching and practically focused learning experience.

During the training, participants gained knowledge and hands-on experience in solar PV systems, system design and sizing, off-grid, on-grid and hybrid solutions, energy storage, installation, commissioning, troubleshooting, and operation and maintenance.

The participants appreciated the programme for strengthening their technical skills and preparing them to contribute to sustainable energy solutions and the growing renewable-energy sector.

OIC-COMSTECH Coordinator General Prof. Dr. Iqbal Chaudhary Visits CEMB-PU, Reviews Genome Editing Training Outcomes and Research Collaboration
October 7, 2026---Coordinator General OIC-COMSTECH COMSTECH, Islamabad, Prof. Dr. Iqbal Chaudhary (HI, SI, TI), visited the Centre of Excellence in Molecular Biology (CEMB), University of the Punjab, Lahore, where he held a detailed meeting with Director CEMB Prof. Dr. Moazur Rahman, COMSTECH scholars, and researchers.
During the meeting, Prof. Dr. Iqbal Chaudhary was briefed on the key outcomes of the international training programme, “Enhancing Genome Editing and Crop Biotechnology Capacity for Climate-Resilient Agriculture in OIC Countries,” held from 22–25 September 2026 at CEMB, in partnership with COMCEC, COMSTECH and SESRIC.
The programme strengthened participants’ practical understanding of crop genome editing and CRISPR-based technologies while promoting interaction and networking among researchers from OIC countries. It also enhanced awareness of biosafety and responsible technology application and opened avenues for future joint research, knowledge exchange, and institutional collaboration. Prof. Dr. Iqbal Chaudhary appreciated the outcomes of the training programme and acknowledged the efforts of the CEMB organizing team in successfully conducting international training.
During his visit, he also interacted with Dr. Ulkar İbrahimova from Azerbaijan and Dr. Sadia Hoque Tamanna from Bangladesh, who are currently undertaking two-month COMSTECH fellowship programmes at CEMB.
The COMSTECH Coordinator General also held detailed discussions on projects related to stem cell research and genetic disease diagnostics under the IsDB Reverse Linkage Programme, supported under the umbrella of the Islamic Development Bank Solidarity Fund.
