🚨 WATCH THEIR HEARTS 🚨

🚨 WATCH THEIR HEARTS 🚨
💙 A bluish color around your newborn’s lips, face, or fingertips can be a warning sign that something may not be right with their heart. It’s important to know that bluish coloring can look different depending on your newborn’s skin tone. On darker skin, it may be harder to recognize and can appear gray, pale, or ashen rather than blue.
💙 You know your baby best. If you notice a change in your newborn’s color that concerns you, trust your instincts and call your baby’s doctor immediately. Your questions and concerns matter.
At Hole in the Heart, we’re committed to helping families become stronger advocates for their newborns through education and awareness.

Hole In The Heart is grateful for coalitions that unite CHD nonprofits and advocacy efforts. When we join forces, meaningful progress can be made for every family.

Thanks to Every 100th Heart for uniting us and carrying the work forward on a national scale.

As long as there are hearts, there will be CHD.

❤️ Sandra Sanchez Fahrlender, Founder of Hole In The Heart, has been selected to join the Every 100th Heart CHD Champions Network!

This national network brings together advocates working to elevate congenital heart disease (CHD) and create meaningful change for individuals and families affected by CHD.

Sandra has worked with federal and state legislators to advocate for New Mexico families, bringing the voices and experiences of the CHD community to the table and advocating for greater awareness, timely detection, and improved systems of care.

She is always seeking opportunities to learn more about advocacy and looks forward to gaining new tools, learning from fellow CHD advocates, and using that knowledge to strengthen advocacy efforts in New Mexico and on a national level.

There is still much work to do—and Hole In The Heart is committed to being part of that change. ❤️

Appreciation to Every 100th Heart for developing a great tool that supports advocacy efforts at both the state and national levels.

❤️ Seen or Unseen, Every CHD Journey Matters.

Because every heart has a story—and every story deserves to be seen, heard, and understood.

Some congenital heart defects are visible. Others are unseen—hidden behind a smile, a seemingly healthy newborn, or someone who may not “look sick.”

At Hole In The Heart, we believe every CHD journey matters.

That belief drives our work to raise awareness, educate families and healthcare professionals, build partnerships, and advocate for better CHD detection, care, and outcomes across New Mexico.

We advocate because families deserve answers.

We advocate because timely detection can make a difference.

We advocate because people living with CHD deserve lifelong support and care.

And we advocate because no heart journey should be overlooked simply because it isn't visible.

Whether a CHD is seen or unseen, every diagnosis, every family, and every journey matters.

❤️ We see you. We hear you. And we will continue to advocate for you.

💗 Would You Know?

We had such a wonderful time participating in Maternal Health Day! We loved connecting with expecting and newborn parents, caregivers, and families while sharing our “Would You Know?” questionnaire—a fun way to learn more about newborn health and the signs every family should know.

And congratulations to Claire, our lucky drawing winner! 🎉 She took home a gift basket filled with goodies to help her sweet newborn get off to a healthy start. 🍼💗

These are the moments that remind us why we do what we do. Giving back, sharing knowledge, and educating the next generation of moms truly warms our hearts! 💕

A New Partnership for Newborn Heart Health ❤️

We are proud to announce our partnership with the Bernalillo County Home Visiting Work Group Coalition!

Recently, Hole In The Heart had the opportunity to present our Watch Their Hearts initiative to more than 50 participants representing Home Visiting Groups and family organizations from across New Mexico. What an incredible opportunity to connect with professionals and organizations who are working every day to support New Mexico families!

Through Watch Their Hearts, we are continuing our CHD education outreach by educating healthcare and public health professionals about 6 warning signs that may indicate a missed congenital heart defect (CHD) in a newborn. Recognizing these signs and knowing when to encourage families to talk with their newborn’s healthcare team can make a meaningful difference.

We are grateful to the Bernalillo County Home Visiting Work Group Coalition for welcoming us and for helping us expand the reach of this important education across New Mexico. Together, we can help expecting and newborn parents Watch Their Hearts and work toward timely detection of CHDs.❤️

💦 Sudar mucho durante la alimentación o cuando su recién nacido está activo puede ser una señal de que algo no está bien con su corazón. Aunque un poco de sudor puede ser normal, la sudoración excesiva, especialmente mientras come, no debe ignorarse.
