25 years ago having endometriosis cause infertility kept me from going into NY on September 11 2001 for Acupuncture school.

I had to go to St Barnabus Livingston for ultrasound and bloodwork with my fertility Dr.

I did not get on the train from
NJ for NY for my classes that day.

I did not get stuck in NYC unable to get home.

I sat in the waiting room with patients and the fertility Drs watching the TV in horror at what looked worse than any violent movie I had ever seen.

And I was there in NY in the days, weeks, months, and longer and people who were closer to ground zero that day would, for some reason, feel comfortable sharing their tragic stories on the train ride in or out of the city about what happened.

My heart was so heavy with their stories and experiences, why did they need to share them with me?

Penn Station was under construction at that time. The plywood was covered with photos asking have you seen this person. I passed those every day of school in and out of the city.

I watched my then husband now ex become a more and more paranoid conspiracy theory fanatic in the years that followed.

Today, 25 years later, I am working a shift at the fertility clinic where I work a few days a week, RMA Marlton NJ. Doing laser acupuncture to help others make their family dreams come true.

There is never any forgetting of what you saw if you were anywhere near NY in the weeks after. You didn’t have to be there that day for the horror to impact you in some way.

You don’t need to hear names read year after year to be reminded. You can’t bear to watch the footage.

It’s part of you forever.

Acupuncture isn’t always about treating the physical. Hi, I’m Dr Stephanie and I’m known to make patients cry, and not because the pins hurt.

Oftentimes the emotional is a bigger portion of care in my practice. The way that the emotional can manifest as physical.

Stress
Generational Trauma
Trauma
PTSD
CPTSD
Depression

I love this Matt Haig quote from his most recent book The Midnight Train- and really I can’t pick a favorite book of his that I have read.

“Sometimes you have to let your heart break in order to stay alive.”

Summer is a hard time of year for me, my own depression ramps up. And life has felt really tough.

If you are ready for a good cry and moving that energy - I’m your needler. And don’t be surprised if I cry with you - sometimes that happens in the treatment room 🤷🏻‍♀️
