Packing your hospital bag? Don’t forget the lactation essentials ✨

A few small things can make a BIG difference in those early feeding days. Here are a few of my favorite breastfeeding must-haves to bring along:
• Coconut oil or ni**le balm• Harvested colostrum - it’s meant to be used during baby’s first few days. 😉• A breastfeeding pillow - cause those hospital pillows suck. • Your breast pump - incase a hospital one is not available and you need to start pumping. • Your lactation consultant’s phone number saved & ready📱

Preparing ahead of time can help you feel more confident, supported, and ready to focus on bonding with your baby.

We’ve got you, mama 🫶🏽

Exclusively Breastfeeding or planning to primarily breastfeed? 🤰🏽

When baby is born and is nursing well there is no need to pump for at least the first few weeks unless medically indicated for either yourself or baby! 👶🏾

But if things are going well - do you need to pump?

Here are some helpful tips on when you may need to bring out that pump! 🍼

Whether you’re trying to increase supply, build a freezer stash, or replace a bottle feeding, timing your pumping sessions can make a big difference.

Remember: milk removal signals milk production. 🤍

Save this post for later or share it with a breastfeeding mama who may need it! ✨

Did you know?!

Mastitis isn’t always an infection — and more antibiotics aren’t always the answer.

Current evidence, including guidance from Physician Guide to Breastfeeding, shows that many cases of early mastitis are actually caused by inflammation and swelling within the breast tissue. Oversupply, skipped feeds, aggressive massage, and over-pumping can sometimes make symptoms worse instead of better.

If you’re experiencing breast pain, redness, swelling, fever, or flu-like symptoms while breastfeeding, early support matters. Gentle management, effective milk removal, rest, hydration, ice-ice-ice, and individualized care can make a huge difference.

✨ First reach out to your lactation consultant and try the BAIT method and then contact your doctor if needed. ✨

You do not have to ‘push through’ severe pain to breastfeed successfully — and you deserve evidence-based support, not outdated advice.

IYKYK - Spectra is THAT girl ✨ She’s trustworthy, reliable and EFFICIENT!

This is how I use my Spectra to help me pump the most efficiently and “empty” in 15 minutes.

*Remember pumping shouldn’t be painful or really taking you longer than 20 minutes.* DM with Questions 🤍

As an IBCLC, these are some of the myths that haunt new parents the most. Breastfeeding can be hard — but you deserve support, not fear-based advice 🤍

1. “Breastfeeding is supposed to hurt.”

No — soreness in the very beginning can happen, but ongoing pain, cracked ni**les, bleeding, or curling your toes every latch is NOT something you just have to survive.

2. “Your baby is using you as a pacifier.”

Sometimes babies are comfort nursing, yes — but feeding for comfort, regulation, and connection is biologically normal infant behavior.

3. “Breastfeeding comes naturally.”

For SOME people. For many others it’s a learned skill for both parent and baby.

4 “‘You can’t breastfeed with flat ni**les.”

Let’s not ni**le shame. Meanwhile babies latch onto breast tissue…not just ni**les. It’s called breastfeeding not ni**le feeding. 👀 Sometimes it just takes positioning adjustments, patience, and support.

5. “Triple Feeding”
AKA:
Breastfeed.
Bottle feed.
Pump.
Wash parts.
Maybe cry a little.
Repeat every 2–3 hours.
Triple feeding can absolutely be a useful very short-term temporary tool in certain situations — but without a clear plan, support, and follow-up, it can quickly become physically and emotionally exhausting and just not sustainable.

We had such a great time these past 2 days at the Iowa Breastfeeding Conference. We were able to meet and hear from Dr. Katrina Mitchell, MD, IBCLC, PMH-C - creator of Physician Guide to Breastfeeding. What a privilege it was to learn from someone so knowledgeable, passionate and experienced in helping breastfeeding moms. We are excited to take the things we learned from all the speakers and incorporate them into our practice and continue serving our families with the best care possible! ✨

Next up on our fl**ge shape series! (•)(•)

-Did you know there are different shape fl**ges?
-Did you know that shape is as important as size?
MEET ~ C O M F Y ~

The COMFY fl**ge is just that, more comfortable! This fl**ge has the same angle of the traditional fl**ge, but with a smaller diameter and a soft silicone rim. The tunnel on this fl**ge is longer for increased comfort for more elastic ni**les.

All b***s are different, don’t settle for discomfort. You deserve the best experience possible while pumping. Contact us at HomeGrown Lactation Services today for your complete fl**ge fitting. ✨
