White River Shiatsu

White River Shiatsu Massage and shiatsu therapy based in downtown Anderson These can be long/medium term issues or goals, or recovery from acute injuries or pain.

My office is located in downtown Anderson of the ground floor of the Beverly Terrace Building, next to Collective Roots and Sage Yoga & Ayurveda. My practice is primarily therapeutic in focus, meaning most clients have wellness, fitness, or quality of life issues/goals that bodywork can help with. Deep tissue generally refers to a corrective/therapeutic approach to assisting clients with problemat

ic patterns and specific concerns. It can be quite "deep" but doesn't have to be and doesn't have to be especially painful. Pressure and intensity vary according to client needs and comfort. Shiatsu is a therapeutic form of bodywork that developed in Japan with strong influence from Chinese medicine traditions. Shiatsu can treat the full range of physical and psychological conditions, including many not recognized by Western medicine. Its sort of like receiving a combination of acupuncture (from hands instead of needles) and massage, with assisted stretching and range of motion movements. If you are not sure what style would be the best fit for you or if anything I offer would be helpful, feel free to reach out with questions. If the cost presents a hardship and you are interested in these services for health reasons, please contact me. I'm open to trades of goods and services.

Cupping can be a very effective way to treat soft tissue tension at home as well as in the treatment room. The basics of using silicone cups and pump cups are easy to learn and the cups are quite affordable. Plus, they are fun!

Let me know if you have any questions!

If you're pregnant, cupping can still be great but please research contraindicated points first.

Feet are easy to ignore when they're hidden away in shoes, yet they're literally our foundation.

How well do you know your feet? How connected does the rest of your body feel to them?

The typical human foot has 33 joints—a lot of movement packed into a small area. Human feet are also richly supplied with sensory nerves, constantly gathering information about the surfaces beneath us and helping our bodies organize movement and stability. Do your feet get to experience a variety of surfaces and movements, or are they more like bored dogs watching life through a window?

Over the past few years, I've enjoyed exploring and learning about the role our feet play in the way we move. Over the coming weeks, I'll share a few observations from my own experience, my work with clients, and questions I'm still exploring. I'd love to hear what you've noticed about your own feet, too.

Stay tuned!

Tai chi walking drills may not cut your weight in half in a month or give you overnight six-pack abs... but here's what they can help with:

• Better stability and balance
• Greater body awareness and control
• Stronger single-leg stability
• More ease and efficiency of movement
• Learning to relax under stress
• Reconnecting with parts of your body that aren't pulling their weight

Curious? Join us for a free class this Saturday at 9:00 a.m. during the Farmers Market (weather permitting). We'll be on 's patio. We'd love to have you!

Fear of certain movements can quietly shape our lives. Are there any movements you avoid? How might that affect your confidence, your health, or activities with loved ones?

Last summer, while completing a fitness coaching program, I found myself working on handstands. Having experienced vertigo, I'd avoided inversions for years. Within a couple of weeks, that fear disappeared. By the end of the program, I could hold a handstand long enough to earn my certification. Along the way, my shoulders and back became stronger and more mobile, and even my motion sickness lessened.

Our bodies and brains are remarkably adaptable when we appropriately challenge them!

If you're not sure where to begin, I'm happy to chat. Message me for a free consultation—or just join me on the patio

That unruly patch of green on the left is comfrey—a wonderful medicinal garden plant.

I've had excellent results using comfrey compresses for some gnarly sprains, bone bruises, and other injuries. Most recently, a client recovering from bruised ribs found it very helpful.

Interested? Help yourself to a few comfrey leaves from my office garden (pictured here)!

Learning about the energetic proprieties of food and herbs was one of the most helpful aspects for my training in shiatsu school. It honestly transformed my health!

Instead of cold food and drinks (which inhibit nutrient uptake and don't actually cool your body), consider increasing energetically cooling things such as mint, lettuce, cucumbers, melon, etc.
