Integrated Movement,LLC

Integrated Movement,LLC I have a specific focus on helping equestrian's.

At Integrated Movement, I use the Feldenkrais Method ®️, and other brain based/nervous system practices to help people ease chronic pain, improve balance, and feel more resilient.

As I am currently deeply entrenched in my final weeks of my Feldenkrais training, I am reading more of Moshes writings. I am deeply struck by how much they coincide with high quality horsemanship. Feldenkrais and horsemanship and an amazing combination. ❤️

“There is no one correct seat. The seat is dependent on the age and level of training of the horse
and also on the situation at the moment… The seat is not static or mechanical, but dynamic and
must be very flexible.” — Anja Beran, The Dressage Seat

"Posture is related to action and not to the maintenance of any given position. Acture would perhaps be a better word for it." - Moshe Feldenkrais, The Potent Self

Lots going on the next few weeks and months. I'm excited to be heading back to Tennessee in November! Friday the 6th I will be teaching the introductory Foundations workshop. We have a few spots still available. If you're interested in details, message me. 🐴

What the heck are we doing in these pictures!? We always get up to something new and fun at Concinnity Farm. ( huge thank you to Terra Bortels for always being a good sport with pictures)

We are training upper cervical proprioception. Why does that matter? The upper cervical region is a proprioceptively rich area. It integrates with the visual and vestibular systems, for balance and spatial awareness. It can also play a role in chronic neck pain.
For riders freeness with neck, and training the balance systems is incredibly important. There are so many tools and ways to train these areas off the horses, so that in the saddle these systems are working for you, not against you.

One of the hardest parts of what I’ve learned over the last six years is that, some of the most important systems we work with are ones most people aren’t even aware we have.

The vestibular system. The visual system. The deeper, non-conscious layer of proprioception, your body schema, not just body awareness.

I hear this all the time:

“My vision is great, I’m 20/20.” Then we try a simple convergence drill, ( eyes tracking an object in towards the nose) and both eyes don't work together.

“My balance is fine.” Then we close the eyes, or just turn the head, and it’s gone.

“I’ve worked hard on body awareness.” Then we do a simple movement lesson and one side of the body is nowhere near as connected as the other.

None of these people were wrong. They were describing what they could feel. But so much of how we move, balance, and stay oriented in space runs underneath what we are consciously aware that we can feel. You don’t need some type of diagnosis for these systems to be working against you instead of for you.

This is why “just relax” or “just pay attention to your body” often isn’t enough. You can’t consciously fix what was never conscious to begin with.

Driving back from a clinic in Tennessee recently, I found myself doing something I’ve actually done on long highway drives for years – looking at the rock faces along the road cuts and wondering about the plants growing out of them. My whole life I’ve noticed these towering walls of stone blas...

The brain and nervous system have everything to do with how we move and how we ride. After 15 plus years working with horses, the last 6 years have been spent diving deeply into working with riders. Studying applied neurology and the Feldenkrais® Method, I’ve built workshops around exactly that intersection, and I keep refining them because the material is rich and the applications for riders are deep. Falls, accidents, concussions, accumulated stress — these experiences leave real impressions on the nervous system that show up as anxiety, bracing, and patterns that more riding or more instruction don’t always reach. For a lot of riders, this turns out to be a missing piece, and interestingly I have seen some of the most profound changes in the horses come once we actually help the rider.

Wanting to make the work as available as possible, the most recent iterations of the workshop were built to be fully accessible over Zoom, as well as in person. They run 4.5 hours ( although they have been known to run a little longer ) and you receive all the educational material by email before the class. After the workshop there are short videos and more follow up info and support.

The workshops we meant to help people begin to experience both of these amazing methods and see how they relate directly for equestrians.

Between mid September and Mid December I have a handful of weekend dates that are available to schedule a workshop. If you are curious to learn more and get more details reach out, I’m happy to chat.

If your curious to hear how this work has helped other riders, see what they have had to say here: https://integratedmovementllc.com/new-page-1
