First stop: Jamaica! 🇯🇲

This month, we launched Crossing the World—our new monthly adventure exploring the culture, food, music, and traditions of a different country.

And what started with DISCOVERY turned into something even better: Jim spontaneously recalled Harry Belafonte, the legendary calypso crooner, sparking a fun conversation that ended with the whole group singing “Day-O!”

Cheers to the Crossing Crew—and to the wonderful people, traditions, and stories that make our world so beautifully unique. 🌎💚

Member Spotlight: JJ

If you’ve followed Sage Crossing for a while, you’ve probably seen JJ—our unofficial spokesperson, resident comedian, and enthusiastic ambassador for growing older without growing up.

JJ joined us as the only guy in a sea of women and held his ground. Month after month, he showed up with his unmistakable Southern accent, quick wit, and an unwavering willingness to jump on the silly train. He was always game.

When we asked JJ to join Jill and me on the Filling the Glass podcast to talk about Sage Crossing, he didn’t hesitate. And when we recently asked for his honest opinion on our program materials, JJ gave us one of the best pieces of feedback we’ve received:
“Y’all’s brochure screams old folks’ home.” 😂

With JJ and his wonderful wife, Carol, helping us see Sage Crossing through the eyes of the people we serve, we began shaping our program around something that feels much more like what we wanted all along—a club built around connection, purpose, friendship, and fun.
JJ’s wisdom comes with a healthy dose of humor:
“What could go wrong?”
“If people learn from their mistakes, I should be the smartest man in the world.”

And somehow, those two quotes pretty much sum him up. 😂

JJ reminds us that growing older doesn’t mean growing up—and that life is a whole lot better when you have someone willing to laugh, try something new, and make everyone around them smile.

Cheers to JJ, a bright light who makes every Sage Crossing day better simply by being in it. 💚

We had the wonderful opportunity to join Filling the Glass podcast and share more about Sage Crossing, our mission, and the work we’re doing in our community. 💚
We truly appreciate the opportunity to share what we’re passionate about. 💚

Volunteer Spotlight: Meet Kathy Montero!

Sometimes the best partnerships begin with a little serendipity.

Kathy and I first met as neighbors, and before long we discovered we shared the same passion: supporting individuals living with memory changes and the families who walk alongside them.

Kathy has been a caregiver to four parents living with brain change, giving her a depth of compassion and understanding that can’t be taught. Today, she continues to honor their journeys by giving back to others. As a dedicated Sage Crossing volunteer, Kathy leads our caregiver support group on the first Wednesday of every month, creating a welcoming space where caregivers can connect, share, and know they are not alone.

One of the greatest lessons Kathy has taught me is that we don’t always have to have the answers. Our instinct is often to fix every problem, but some of the greatest gifts we can offer are simply listening, making space for someone’s story, and reminding them that someone understands.

Thank you, Kathy, for your heart, your wisdom, and your unwavering commitment to our community. Sage Crossing is stronger because of you. 💜

🌟 Crossing Crew Spotlight: Meet Sally! 🌟

For nearly six months, Sally has been an incredible part of the Crossing Crew, and we can’t imagine our days without her!

If you know Sally, you know she’s almost always bundled up—no matter the season! ❄️ But while she may be a little cold-natured, she has one of the warmest hearts you’ll ever meet.

Sally is also one fierce competitor. She’s often heard laughing and asking, “Who comes up with these games?” Yet no matter how silly the challenge, she’s all in until the very end. Whether it’s air hockey with oversized medical gloves, color-sorting skee-ball, bobsled races in laundry baskets, or figurative language charades, Sally gives every activity 110%. She plays hard, laughs often, and somehow manages to stay humble—even when she’s quietly proving she’s one of our toughest competitors!

Beyond the games, Sally has a true gift for serving others. Her creativity shines through every craft she makes, and she’s always among the first to lend a helping hand. She’s helped assemble Easter baskets for the Children’s Home Society, spent a chilly 40-degree morning planting vegetables at Simple Gifts Community Garden, and approaches every service project with kindness, care, and purpose.

Sally reminds us that community isn’t just about showing up—it’s about jumping in, encouraging others, sharing laughter, and making a difference together.

We’re so grateful you’re part of the Crossing Crew, Sally. Thank you for bringing your competitive spirit, creative talents, generous heart, and contagious giggle to Sage Crossing each week. ❤️

Hear from our volunteers—the absolute heart and soul of the Crossing Crew! 🤍

Their big, open hearts and willingness to just jump in and be a true friend is what makes this community so incredibly special. Often, visitors tell us they can’t tell who is the volunteer and who is the member living with brain change... and honestly, that is exactly the point!

We are all in this together. There is nothing better than watching our members and volunteers lift each other up, side-by-side. At Sage Crossing, it’s not about who is helping whom—it’s about shared purpose, shared joy, and a shared sense of belonging. ✨

Swipe through to read what some of our amazing volunteers have to say about why they love their days with us! 👇
