More than 25 years ago, contact cooling was introduced to address two major challenges:

❄️ Improve patient comfort during treatment
❄️ Help reduce the risk of superficial epidermal injury

It was an important advancement and quickly became the industry standard.

But every engineering decision comes with a trade-off.

By cooling the treatment surface, contact cooling can alter the interaction between light and superficial treatment targets. To COMPENSATE, many systems require higher fluence to achieve the desired thermal effect.
