The History of Pride 🏳️🌈🏳️⚧️
Pride began in response to the 1969 Stonewall Uprising in New York City, a pivotal moment in the fight for LGBTQ+ rights.
Just one year later, on June 28, 1970, the first Pride marches were held in New York City, Los Angeles, Chicago, and San Francisco, marking the beginning of a movement that would continue to grow for decades.
Throughout the 1970s and 1980s, Pride celebrations spread to cities across the United States. By the 1990s, Pride events could be found in communities nationwide, and the movement had expanded internationally, with celebrations taking place across Europe, Canada, Australia, and many other countries around the world.
Today, Pride is celebrated globally and serves as both a celebration of LGBTQ+ communities and a reminder of the progress made and the work still to be done. 🌈
