Three of my dapper gentlemen clients came in to pick up trunk show orders yesterday, I got pics of 2. They all came in over lunch time when I was by myself and 2 of them shared a can of cider from The Poisoned Apple - it was so fun! It’s honestly a bit more rare that guys want to wear bold eyewear so it made me so happy inside to have a shop full of fun men that are willing to be a little braver!

Thanks Chris, Elliot & Jim! Come in and crack open a cider anytime. It’s 5:00 somewhere.

Serving up beautiful glasses…..we love our job.

This week has been so busy and I look around sometimes when all three of us staff are juggling helping multiple people and I’m like omg how is this little dream of mine so real and working so well? We are doing our best to navigate growing pains and I’m so grateful for the team that I’m leaning on more & more every day. The shop has changed so much from the early days when it was just me and there was time for long deep conversations as we picked out glasses. That still happens but I would say it’s more of an eyeglass party every day! The connections are there but it’s less emotional, more fun! We still shed tears with you, over cancer diagnosis & happy tears over remission! Over new babies and lost loved ones. Sharing the ups & downs of life will always be what we are here for, but our focus has definitely felt more like a party lately, with multiple groups chiming in on each other’s choices - the music & the iced coffees and the vibrant atmosphere of our new spot. I also think it reflects a different season of life for me, when I opened the shop, I was still deep in grief and I’m so grateful for the support I found in the shop conversations & community. I think this new vibrancy is reflective of healing and joy! Joy in having my dream work, being surrounded by a strong team, a gorgeous shop that we still pinch ourselves over, and yall walking in the door everyday!

I get worried that we are losing what we had in the start, but it’s just evolving. Thank you for the beautiful reviews lately and in person feedback too, we really appreciate you!

We had so so much fun at cruise night, I’m not into cars really but to see the community having fun together, the variety of cars (I think my fave was the yellow school bus) - Tessa got to ride in a car with her friend, the parasailer, the familiar faces walking by, all ages enjoying the evening, and the STUNNING sunset. It felt magical! 🧡

Big weekend downtown starting tomorrow. If you have plans to come look for new specs, parking in the center median & street parking will be limited starting at 1pm. We luckily share parking with the Carlton Hotel and our landlord says we can use the whole lot, accessible on Traffic Way. The streets will be fully open until 5pm which is when we close. So just park in the parking lot next to our shop and leave at 5 and youre good!

Dancing in the Streets is Saturday and Wipe Out Band is playing who yall voted for at the last block party. Come on out and enjoy our beautiful downtown!

Reiteration: shop hours remain the same, Friday 10-5, Saturday 12-5, park in the Carlton lot which is to your left coming east off the freeway. Call us with any questions! 805-460-7575 🧡

Yesterday I went down a rabbit hole on Facebook reading all sorts of negative opinions about Atascadero. We then had family over for dinner and heard tons of sirens to a house fire close to our home. I woke up this morning to find out it’s a family we’ve known for many years, she was Tessa’s softball coach, and I saw a huge outpouring of support for their family.

I’ve also been in touch with ECHO Homeless Shelter to try to help their family wing, which will allow families privacy as they find permanent housing, and I was able to send off more money today due to our crazy good month in July.

This is a bit meandering as I try to put my heart into words. The noise is loud online. The world is really hard sometimes. But this community shows up in a BIG way to help our town stay clean, safe and supportive for us all to enjoy. I love our little downtown, I love watching it get busier and so many people walking around.

When I opened my business 5 years ago, I hardly knew anyone. I felt very alone, but I trusted this was the place I wanted to put down roots, and I’m sooooo proud to call you all MY COMMUNITY. My chosen family. My friends. Thanks for supporting Specs so we can give back in a small way.

I’ve shared this before but I’ve always wondered if my birth mom would have had more support, if I wouldn’t have been in foster care. The answer is probably that she wasn’t able to parent regardless, but I love knowing that ECHO is helping to keep families together.
