Longevity isn’t just for humans. 🐾 In honor of International Dog Day this week, we're sharing a BBH favorite!

We often talk about the power of Himalayan Tartary Buckwheat (HTB) for our own immune resilience, but its extraordinary phytonutrient diversity can be a game-changer for our four-legged family members too.

Inspired by the science in The Forever Dog Life, this is a simple way to bring the strength of nature into your dog’s bowl. By using HTB Flour in homemade treats, you are providing them with the same polyphenols and immune-active compounds that support cellular health and vitality.

Food is information for every system, and choosing nutrient-dense, whole-food ingredients is the best way to close the healthspan gap for the ones who love us most.

It all began with pancakes.

Long before Himalayan Tartary Buckwheat became part of Big Bold Health, Sam and Lucia Beer were growing, milling, and experimenting with buckwheat in the small town of Angelica, New York.

The couple moved to Angelica in 1975 to start a dairy farm, eventually becoming part of the local food community through seasonal markets, homegrown produce, and their Angelica Mill. Buckwheat pancakes became a staple and their curiosity about this resilient plant kept growing.

While looking for ways to improve their common buckwheat crop, Sam and Lucia discovered something different: Himalayan Tartary Buckwheat (HTB)

At the time, there was virtually no commercial market for it. But they saw its potential and chose to grow, mill, and preserve the crop themselves.

That decision became part of a much bigger story.

Today, Sam and Lucia have retired from farming, but their contribution lives on. Big Bold Health continues the Angelica Mill legacy, and Sam remains a valued consultant as we work to bring this extraordinary ancient plant and its remarkable phytonutrient diversity to more people.

Some of the biggest ideas start with curiosity. This one happened to start with pancakes.

What if one of the most powerful upgrades to your diet wasn’t about eating less but adding more of what your body recognizes?🌱

That’s why Kathryn keeps Himalayan Tartary Buckwheat in her routine.

HTB is an ancient, remarkably resilient plant naturally rich in phytonutrients to help support the body’s own protective and antioxidant pathways.

Getting more plant diversity doesn’t require overhauling your diet. Sprinkle it into a smoothie. Stir it into yogurt. Add it to breakfast. Bake with it.

Because health isn’t built by chasing perfection.

It’s built by giving your body better information, consistently.

More diversity. More phytonutrients. More ways to nourish your biology.

That’s eating Big. And living Bold. 🌱

In between you and a new immune system is 90 days based on dietary and lifestyle choices. Meaning, if you start rejuvenating your immunity today, by spring, your new immune system will be in full bloom. In our HTB Longevity Study, we discovered that in people aging more rapidly, taking HTB for 90 days slowed immune aging by 47%.

Organic or conventional? 🌱 It’s not always as simple as the label.

The foods we eat are more than calories and nutrients — they’re information. And how that food is grown can influence what ultimately ends up on our plate.

Choosing organic can be one way to reduce exposure to certain pesticide residues, but that doesn’t mean every food needs to be organic to support your health. The bigger picture matters: **soil health, growing practices, plant diversity, phytonutrient density, and the overall quality of your diet.**

At Big Bold Health, we believe better health starts by asking better questions about our food — where it came from, how it was grown, and how it interacts with our biology.

So if you can’t buy everything organic? Don’t let perfect become the enemy of good. Prioritize where it matters most, eat a diverse range of whole plant foods, and keep focusing on the patterns that support your health over time.

Why do the healthiest foods on earth tend to taste a little bitter?

It's not a coincidence. Bitterness in plants signals the presence of polyphenols — protective compounds shown to support microbiome health, cellular resilience, and healthy aging.

The more processed the food, the more those bitter notes get refined away. And with them, the nutrition.
Himalayan Tartary Buckwheat is one of the richest sources of polyphenols ever studied. HTB Sprout Powder takes it further through a proprietary sprouting and inoculation process that unlocks even greater nutrient potency — while keeping that toasted, nutty flavor intact. A little edge. Never overpowering. Nothing added. Nothing stripped away.
