When did your nesting urge kick in during pregnancy—and did it feel different with later babies?

For some, it shows up early and strong. For others, it’s a last-minute burst of energy right before labor. And in subsequent pregnancies, many notice it feels either more intense, more practical, or sometimes completely different than the first time around.
There’s no “right” version—just your body, preparing in its own way.

In honor of Memorial Day, our office is closed today.

We pause to remember and honor the families and service members who gave their lives in service to our country. Their sacrifice is not forgotten, and we are deeply grateful for the freedom we live in today.

What was your favorite part of being pregnant?

For some, it’s the first flutters of movement. For others, it’s the quiet anticipation, the slower pace, or the deep sense of connection to the baby growing inside.
Every pregnancy holds its own small moments of wonder—what was yours?

Morning sickness: when was it the worst for you?

Morning? Afternoon? Evening? Or truly all day?

Despite the name, nausea in pregnancy doesn’t follow a clock. For some it’s predictable, for others it shifts throughout the day—or throughout the entire pregnancy. No two experiences are the same, and sometimes, a repeat pregnancy or two doesn't follow mom's trend!

Did any particular tricks help you manage your morning sickness? Share in the comments below!

Myth: Homebirth is a new trend.
Truth: Homebirth is not new—it’s one of the oldest ways humans have welcomed babies into the world. While modern medicine has changed the landscape of birth, families choosing homebirth today are participating in a practice that has existed for generations across cultures and history.

These signs can show up days, or sometimes weeks, before labor begins, and they don’t always follow a predictable order. Your body is always communicating; learning to listen can be one of the most helpful parts of late pregnancy. There isn't a one-size-fits-all magic formula. This can be one, a few, or all depending on the mom, but here are some signs your body may be preparing for labor:

In honor of Day of the Midwife, we asked Cara when and how she knew she wanted to be a midwife:

Cara’s interest in birth began at a young age, but it was the experience of welcoming her first child that led her to pursue a career in healthcare, focusing on maternity nursing. While she had long considered becoming a midwife, it wasn’t until she experienced firsthand the profound difference midwifery care can make during pregnancy and birth that she knew this was exactly where she was meant to be.

For years, Cara faithfully served our community as a maternity nurse, caring for families with compassion and dedication. Now, after graduating last year and over a decade of maternity nursing, we are so grateful to welcome her in a new role—as a skilled and heartfelt midwife. We are truly blessed to have her on our team.

In honor of Day of the Midwife, we asked Kristen: “When and how did you know you wanted to be a midwife?”

Her response:
“If you know the story of my second birth, you’ll know that my provider dropped me from care at 40 weeks pregnant because my son was in the breech position. I was left with no real options and ultimately had a cesarean. It led to a very difficult postpartum season, and even months later I still felt like I didn’t have the support I needed.

I remember thinking, ‘When I’m a midwife one day, I won’t treat my patients like this.’ And, well… the rest is history. I had my son in September and enrolled in a midwifery program the next spring.”

As a community of moms, we would never wish that story on anyone—but we are deeply thankful Kristen turned a painful experience into purpose. Enough purpose, in fact, to build a community of care rooted in informed consent, steady support, and the beauty of Southern Adirondack Midwifery.
