It reaches peak illumination at 10:12 PM EDT, and it should be a beautiful night to look up. Despite the name, the moon usually won’t actually appear bright pink — the name comes from the early spring wildflowers that bloom this time of year.

🤌🏻 Tonight, if you stand outside 30 minutes after sunset and slowly turn from west to east, you'll sweep your gaze across six planets in the solar system.

On February 28, six planets are visible in the evening sky at once: Mercury, Venus, Saturn, Neptune, Uranus, and Jupiter. They trace a sweeping arc along the ecliptic, the invisible path the Sun follows during the day. This is the same flat plane our solar system was born from, 4.6 billion years ago, and tonight you can see it drawn across the sky in planets. 🌌

Here's what to expect realistically. Jupiter owns the eastern sky, blazing at magnitude -2.3 near Castor and Pollux in Gemini, with a 92% Moon glowing just 4° away. That alone is worth stepping outside for. High above Orion, Uranus hides below the Pleiades in Ta**us, visible with binoculars.

Now turn west. This is where it gets tricky. Venus, Mercury, and Saturn are all huddled low on the western horizon in the fading twilight. Venus is the brightest, but sits low. Mercury is fading fast. Saturn is almost gone. You'll need a clear, flat western horizon and good timing. Neptune is near Saturn but requires a telescope.

This show has such a sweet message

Originally airing in 1977, Emmet Otter’s Jug-Band Christmas is a unique holiday television special. Directed by Jim Henson, the special is based on Russell Hoban’s 1971 children’s book of the same name and is a take on O. Henry’s classic “The Gift of the Magi”.

The special, which is a bit unlike other Muppet specials, originally aired on Canada’s CBC Television where it won over both critics and audiences and later made its way to the United States, first on HBO in 1978 and ABC in 1980. It’s since become a beloved classic — just one we don’t immediately think of during the holiday season.

If you are familiar at all with “The Gift of the Magi”, you already know the general emotional thread of Emmet Otter’s Jug-Band Christmas. The story generally centers around two people who want to get one another Christmas gifts but have very little money so they sacrifice something important to themselves in order to get something important for the other, the twist being that the gifts end up being related to the things that the other sacrificed. The story serves as a message of true, selfless love and how it is the most valuable gift of all.

While Emmet Otter’s Jug-Band Christmas is a Jim Henson production and there are Muppets, part of what makes this such a great special is that it’s not the Muppets you’d expect. Kermit the Frog does appear as the special’s narrator, but the rest of the more popular Muppets aren’t in this. Instead, these are country Muppets which makes for some rich storytelling that lets you get to know this entirely different world of Muppet culture.
