Heartland Whole Health Institute today announced the launch of a statewide Graduate Medical Education Technical Assistance Center to help strengthen Arkansas’ physician pipeline.
Arkansas trains approximately 430 doctors each year but out of 1,281 total GME positions in the state only 375 are for medical school graduates entering their required first year of residency, pushing many Arkansas trained doctors to leave the state for training.
The new center will provide guidance and technical support to hospitals, health systems, academic partners, and communities working to develop and expand residency programs, particularly in rural and underserved areas.
