Hey parents, this one is for you! Back-to-school means growth spurts, changing bodies, and a hundred casual comments from adults about how much a kid has “changed.”

Your kid is listening to how you talk about bodies — theirs, yours, and everyone else’s — all while internalizing the tone about how adults feel about their body changes. Weird, right?

You need a few phrases that don’t tie their worth (or yours) to size.

Swipe for some real-life swaps and what to say instead of the comments most of us grew up hearing.

And if you’ve said the old version before? That’s okay, give yourself a pass. You get to start now.

The wellness industry doesn’t profit when you feel good in your body. It profits when you feel like your body is something to fix because at least then you’re more prone to buying the next “detox tea,” or workout program, or the new low fat crackers that just taste like cardboard.

The “just one more program” mindset is diet culture’s best friend. The pattern only works if the problem never actually gets solved (ie. ditching the “fix it” mentality)— because if it did, you’d stop buying and wellness/diet culture would lose money. GASP!

You’re not broken. You were just sold a business model that has a fantastic marketing plan. Someone is literally being paid to make sure you feel sh*tty about yourself.

Real “wellness” looks like enough food, enough rest, and people around you who don’t profit off your self-doubt.

Health is shaped by a lot more than what’s on your plate.

So if you’ve been hard on yourself for not “doing enough,” give yourself some slack. So much of what determines our health was never actually in our hands to begin with.

If you want to go deeper, we wrote a full blog post breaking it down. Link in bio!

Your relationship with food is about WAY more than nutrition. It's also about your thoughts, emotions, beliefs, and experiences.

Many people assume they need to be struggling with a diagnosed eating disorder before reaching out for support, but that could not be further from the truth.

If food feels stressful, overwhelming, or takes up more mental space than you'd like, chatting with a therapist and/or dietitian can be a place to explore those patterns with curiosity rather than judgment.

You deserve a relationship with food that feels flexible, nourishing, and sustainable.

💛 Which of these signs stood out to you?

Megan here! I took a vacation to cape cod last week with family and it was much needed. My nervous system takes a deep breath when I’m near the water.

I purchased artwork from Irene on PTown’s pier to remind me to take a deep breath while I’m in my office. I love my little desk addition! 💕

We have some really exciting news 🎉 We're so happy to welcome Elizabeth to A Soft Place to Land!

Elizabeth is a Registered Dietitian who brings so much heart to her work with clients. She's weight-inclusive, HAES(R)-aligned, and deeply committed to helping people heal their relationship with food and their bodies without judgment, food rules, and diet culture sneaking into the room.

A few things she wants you to know if you're considering working with her:

🤍 You are more than a number on a scale. Elizabeth believes nutrition counseling should be shaped around YOUR life, your values, your experiences, not a one-size-fits-all plan. Together, you'll get to unpack how diet culture and societal pressure may have shaped the way you think about food and your body, and start separating those messages from what actually matters to you.

🤍 She knows that healing this relationship can feel scary, overwhelming, even vulnerable at times and she's here to make sure you feel safe, supported, and truly seen throughout the process. Whether you're working through disordered eating, trying to find peace with food again, or just tired of fighting your body, Elizabeth is honored to walk alongside you.

Elizabeth is now accepting both in-person and virtual clients! Link in bio to get started, or reach out with any questions! 🎊

👇Fat liberation vs body positivity…

You’ve probably heard both terms. Maybe you’ve used them interchangeably. A lot of people do, including clinicians, wellness spaces, and yes, social media accounts that mean well, but really just miss the mark.

But they are NOT the same thing.

And the difference matters more than most people realize, especially when it comes to the care fat people receive, the systems they navigate, and what it actually feels like to exist in a body that the world has decided is a problem.

Let’s be clear about what each one is, where society falls short, and why liberation might offer something that body positivity, even at its most genuine, simply can’t.
