This Thursday is understandably a Day of Mourning for many people , particularly Indigenous People. I try to learn from those who came before me, and part of that is the people who lived on and cared for this land for millennia and millennia! So in honor of those stewards, I celebrate the harvest of the cranberry that takes place around this time, and I do stop to reflect and also mourn the tragic loss that the Native People suffered and endured here at the hands of the colonizers, whom are celebrated by white history but rarely are condemned as they should be for the injustices that they also did here. Our history is complex and marked by some pretty dark stuff. Even though it may be uncomfortable, it shouldn’t be ignored or avoided. We look at that darkness so we can confront it and make a brighter and better future for all. That is at least my wish. So, with that, Happy Cranberry Day. Happy Harvest. And may every day be a day of thanks for all that we have. And an accomplishment of where we came from. May we learn from those who provide thousands of yeses of wisdom so that we can all be stewards of this beautiful earth that we live upon.
