A big round of applause to our former President and CEO Carol Knight, who has been selected in the Alabama Nursing Home Association's Legends of Long-Term Care Hall of Fame! She is part of the inaugural class for the Hall of Fame, and she will be officially inducted on Sept. 24 as part of the Alabama Nursing Home Association’s 75th Anniversary Celebration.

It is an honor that is richly deserved. Carol still serves on the Noland Health board of directors, and she has spent 50 years in the long-term care industry. She began her career as a dietitian and continued to learn and take on increasing responsibilities, both at Noland Health and in the broader healthcare community, where she became a respected leader and a champion for the communities we serve

“Our judges recognized the significant contributions and lasting impact you have made to our Association and to the long-term care profession,” the Alabama Nursing Home Association said in its letter to Carol and other honorees. “We are honored to celebrate your accomplishments and legacy.”

Carol said she is grateful for the recognition and humbled to join the others being inducted into the Legends of Long-Term Care Hall of Fame. “It came as a huge surprise, and it’s a true honor to be included with these other individuals who were my peers and people I looked up to and admired,” she said. “I consider them very good friends.”

She also expressed pride in Alabama’s long-term care industry as a whole, which has continued to evolve and grow to meet the needs of the state. During her tenure, Alabama’s long-term care industry started offering dementia and memory care, rehabilitation services, and higher-level care for those with complex conditions. “We are now doing the medical procedures that years ago would have been done in a hospital setting,” she said.

Carol also led Noland Health during one of the industry’s most challenging periods, the COVID-19 pandemic. As the team met daily to work through new issues, she led with a steady hand. She reminded her team that Noland’s founder, Dr. Lloyd Noland, had guided his team through the 1918 flu pandemic.

“I told them, ‘We are just continuing that legacy,’” she said.

We want to take this time to thank Carol for her service and leadership and congratulate her for this well-deserved recognition. We are proud of you and so honored to carry on your legacy of care.

For 19 years, Sylacauga Health & Rehab has been more than a building. It has been a community built by people who show up, care deeply, serve faithfully, and make a difference every single day. So for this milestone, we celebrated the best way we know how: together.

Our Masters of Care Par-Tee at The 19th Hole was a celebration of the employees, friendships, memories, residents, families and community that have shaped us since 2007.

From the golf-inspired details and good food to the laughter around the tables, this one was about stopping long enough to appreciate just how special 19 years of caring for our community really is.

19 years down and still playing for the long game. Here is to the next chapter of great care, strong relationships and a team that continues to make Sylacauga Health and Rehab a special place to call home and a pretty great place to work, too!
