Choosing a sunscreen isn't just about SPF, it's also about understanding the ingredients.

Chemical sunscreens absorb into the skin and often contain ingredients such as avobenzone or oxybenzone. While avobenzone is generally considered a preferred option among chemical filters, many people choose to avoid oxybenzone due to concerns about its potential effects on the body.

Mineral sunblocks, on the other hand, use zinc oxide or titanium dioxide to create a physical barrier on the skin that reflects UV rays. They don't absorb into the skin the same way chemical sunscreens do, making them a popular choice for those looking for a more mineral-based option.

The best sunscreen is the one you'll wear consistently, but understanding the ingredients can help you make a more informed choice for yourself and your family.

Stay tuned for my next video where I'll share some of my favorite sunscreen and sunblock recommendations! ☀️

Did you know the order you eat your food may affect your blood sugar response? A strategy called food sequencing involves eating protein and fiber-rich vegetables before carbohydrates. This can help slow digestion, increase satiety, and reduce the glucose and insulin spikes that often occur after a meal.

It's a simple habit that can support more stable energy levels, better blood sugar balance, and long-term metabolic health. Small changes can make a big difference and sometimes it's not just what you eat, but the order you eat it in.

Do you catch yourself looking down at your phone throughout the day? "Tech neck"" happens when your head shifts forward in front of your shoulders, often from looking down at phones, tablets, or computer screens.

Because your head weighs around 10–12 pounds, this forward posture places extra strain on the muscles in your neck and upper back, which can contribute to tension, fatigue, headaches, and poor posture over time.

Simple habits like sitting taller, taking movement breaks, and maintaining proper spinal alignment can make a big difference.

Spring is here, and so are the sneezing, itchy eyes, and runny noses. While many people assume pollen is the culprit, environmental triggers can also include grasses, weeds, mold, and even lawn pesticides.

When patients come in with seasonal allergy symptoms, we take a closer look at what may be contributing to their body's response so we can create a more personalized approach to care.

Are seasonal allergies affecting you this year?

Not all toothpastes are created equal, here's what to know when choosing one that truly supports your oral health:

Nano-hydroxyapatite is the same mineral your enamel is made of, it repairs microcracks and rebuilds enamel naturally.

Fluoride hardens enamel but acts as a chemical agent that may interfere with thyroid health, it competes with iodine (same row on the periodic table!) for receptor sites, which can disrupt thyroid hormone production.

If you have a thyroid condition, a nano-hydroxyapatite toothpaste may be worth switching to.

Seasonal allergies can show up as much more than sneezing and congestion. Headaches, fatigue, brain fog, body aches, and difficulty breathing can all be signs that your body is reacting to environmental allergens.

In this video, Riley shares her experience with NAET (Nambudripad's Allergy Elimination Technique), a treatment that uses stimulation of specific acupuncture points in the presence of allergens to help reduce the body's reaction to them.

After finding relief last allergy season, she's back for support as spring allergies return. If you're tired of struggling through allergy season, we may be able to help. Call 248-213-1332 to make an appointment.

Hummus isn’t a bad food, but it’s often mistaken for a high-protein snack. A realistic serving of about 4 tablespoons has around 154 calories and only 5 grams of protein.

Instead of using hummus as your main protein source, try adding a tablespoon or two to high-protein foods like chicken or turkey bowls for a more balanced meal.

BPA is a chemical found in many plastics and food containers that may contribute to hormone imbalances, inflammation, insulin resistance, and more. The good news? BPA is considered a non-persistent endocrine disruptor, meaning your body can clear much of it out within days when exposure is reduced.

Simple swaps can help:
• Use glass or stainless steel instead of plastic
• Avoid heating food in plastic containers
• Drink filtered water
• Aim for 20+ grams of fiber daily to support detoxification

Small daily habits can make a big impact on your health.

If your child is taking the antibiotic Cefdinir, red or rust-colored stool can sometimes happen and it can look very alarming to parents.

This occurs because Cefdinir can bind with iron from iron-fortified formula, supplements, or high-iron foods, creating a harmless color change in the stool. While it doesn’t happen to every child, it’s important to know about so you’re not caught off guard.

Always consult your pediatrician if you ever have concerns about your child’s symptoms or reactions.

Plastic cutting boards can release tiny microplastic particles into your food every time you cut on them. Over time, microplastic exposure may impact hormones, thyroid health, insulin balance, and fertility.

Switching to wood or bamboo cutting boards is a simple way to reduce exposure and create a cleaner kitchen environment.
