A developmental concern, screening, referral, evaluation, diagnosis, and intervention are different steps in the process.
The pathway may look like this:
Concern → Screening → Referral → Evaluation → Diagnosis → Intervention
Support does not always have to wait for a formal autism diagnosis. Some early intervention services may be available based on documented developmental delays while a family is still waiting for an evaluation or diagnosis.
