🩺 August 31 is International Overdose Awareness Day — a critical moment to reflect on overdose prevention, naloxone access, and the evolving role of buprenorphine in opioid use disorder treatment.

Recent research is reshaping how clinicians approach overdose risk:
🔹 Naloxone was administered in over 80% of recent nonfatal overdoses among study participants
🔹 Each additional month of buprenorphine treatment was linked to a 4.7% decrease in overdose odds
🔹 Higher buprenorphine doses in the first 30 days may reduce opioid-involved overdose mortality

As the opioid landscape shifts, so must our strategies. From expanding naloxone access to optimizing treatment retention and dosing, overdose prevention is multifaceted — and the evidence is evolving fast.
