HabCenter Boca Raton

HabCenter Boca Raton Our mission is to equip people with the knowledge, skills, and behaviors needed to lead useful and productive lives with dignity, respect and independence.

How it All Started

In the 1970s, vocational training was offered at the far end of Palm Beach County. Due to the distance, families in Boca Raton and nearby areas found it difficult to send their family members there. In 1973, 12 acres of land on Boca Rio Road was donated by the Palm Beach County Commission. This was the beginning of the Habilitation Center for the Handicapped, Inc. (HabCenter).

The funding for the building was provided by contributions from families, area residents, and governmental agencies. Finally, in October 1978, the HabCenter opened its doors to all adults with intellectual, developmental, and physical disabilities. Since then the HabCenter has been accomplishing its mission – equip people with the knowledge, skills and behaviors needed to lead useful and productive lives with dignity, respect and independence – because of all the support from all of our dedicated board members, staff, interns, volunteers, families, friends, funding and donors. Present Day

HabCenter serves adults with lifelong developmental and intellectual disabilities. The Center provides a full-time day program of comprehensive services (including mental/behavioral health, job training and placement, and educational and recreational activities) to enable clients to maximize their potential and live with fulfillment and joy. Client-centered Programs Offered at the HabCenter:

Comprehensive behavioral education and support services through our Social Services Department. Comprehensive Programs in Education, Arts, and Recreation (P.E.A.R.). HabCenter offers a fully integrated response to client needs by providing comprehensive, individually tailored vocational training, supported employment, and wrap-around services. Through these activities, clients improve mental and physical health, expand skills sets and knowledge, build friendships, and make progress towards greater independence. HabCenter’s Sensory Room Ribbon Cutting on June 17 was truly a wonderful and inspiring celebration. We were overwhelmed by the incredible turnout and deeply touched by the support shown by our community. This special day marked more than the opening of a new space. It represented hope, inclusion, and a commitment to enhancing the lives of individuals with developmental differences and mental health challenges.

We extend our heartfelt gratitude to our generous donors whose support made this dream a reality: Albert E. and Birdie W. Einstein Foundation, Boca Rio Foundation, Rita Ullom (Find Your Guru), and TD Charitable Foundation. Because of your generosity, our individuals now have access to a calming and therapeutic environment designed to support emotional well-being, sensory regulation, and personal growth.

We were also honored by the attendance of State Senator Tina Polsky and Senator Lori Bearman, along with their teams, as well as Congressman Jared Moskowitz’s team, who provided special recognition for our Ribbon Cutting. Special thanks also go to Troy McLellan from the Greater Boca Raton Chamber of Commerce; Denise Fraile, our Chopstick Challenge Event Chair; Jan Savarick and Nicole Grimes, our 2026 Chopstick Jockeys; and Alex Price, our MC for the event (Aug. 25, 6 pm at Wyndham). We were delighted to celebrate alongside so many community leaders, advocates, and supporters who share in our mission.

A special thank you goes to the incredible HabCenter team whose dedication, teamwork, and countless hours of preparation helped make this event such a success. Your passion and unwavering commitment to the individuals we serve are at the heart of everything we do, and this memorable celebration would not have been possible without each of you.

We are equally grateful to our Board of Directors—Sonni Johnson, Tom Moraca, and Sarah Pearson—for their leadership, guidance, and steadfast support. Your vision and commitment continue to strengthen HabCenter and help us create opportunities for those we proudly serve.

Thank you to Cindy Conner, owner of Graze Craze Catering North Boca Raton, for providing an absolutely beautiful and delicious charcuterie display that our guests thoroughly enjoyed. We also extend our appreciation to Modest Collection by Anika for the floral wall, which added a beautiful photo backdrop to the celebration.

To everyone who attended, supported, and celebrated with us, thank you for making this day so meaningful and unforgettable. Your encouragement and belief in HabCenter's mission remind us that when a community comes together, incredible things are possible. We look forward to continuing to create spaces where every individual is valued, supported, and empowered to thrive.

Thankful Thursdays Spotlight! We want to give a very special thank you to Rita Ullom, CEO of Finding Your Guru.

Rita toured HabCenter, took the time to learn more about our mission, and even shared a heartfelt video message about her experience. Her kind words mean so much to our team and the individuals we serve!
We are especially thankful for her generous donation to support our Sensory Room, a space that plays a vital role in helping individuals regulate, engage, and thrive.

Be sure to watch Rita’s message to hear why HabCenter’s work matters! Every act of support helps us continue creating spaces and opportunities where the individuals we serve can truly reach their full potential.
