Lately, I’ve been finding so much inspiration in archaeological digs and the materials our ancestors used to adorn themselves. 🖤
Long before mass-produced beads, people shaped bone, horn, shell, stone, wood, and seeds into jewelry that held meaning far beyond decoration. Archaeological discoveries of bone and ivory ornaments reach back tens of thousands of years, reminding us just how ancient our desire to create and adorn ourselves truly is.
But what fascinates me most is the symbolism of wearing bone.
Bone represents endurance, ancestry, death, and transformation. It is a reminder that life is cyclical, that everything returns to the earth, and that we are intimately connected to the more-than-human world.
Across various shamanic and animistic traditions, animal remains can carry spiritual significance, representing connections to animal spirits, ancestral wisdom, protection, and renewal. In my own practice, I’m drawn to the relationship between the materials we work with, the stories they hold, and the intentions we bring to them.
My newest pieces bring these inspirations to life through bone and horn beads, Rembrandt and Picasso seed beads, bronze arrow accents, and beautifully patinated details. Earthy turquoise, ivory, dark wood, and aged bronze come together in pieces that feel almost like artifacts from another time.
I love contemporary adornments inspired by ancient materials and our enduring relationship with the natural world.
✨ I believe jewelry can be more than decoration. It can be a talisman, a reminder, a story we carry against our skin.
