No family should have to choose between food and medical care.

BCP was thrilled to have a visit this week from our valued partner, the Greater Boston Food Bank.

Last month, GBFB reported that, in 2025, 25% of children experiencing food insecurity had to forgo medical care–from prescriptions to medical and dental visits–to make ends meet.

Together, we’re working to put an end to these impossible choices–and give every child the health care they deserve.

At Boston Community Pediatrics, mental health care and medical care do not exist in separate silos. They work together, every single day.

This Mental Health Awareness Month, we asked our staff: How do BCP's mental health clinicians help you in your work? And from all their amazing responses, one thing was clear.

When mental health is fully integrated into pediatric care, it’s a win for everyone’s wellbeing.

Kids can’t wait any longer for integrated mental health care!

Last week, a new study of over 1.8 million children in Massachusetts confirmed what pediatricians know to be true: more kids than ever need mental health support.

Among other conditions, the study found that pediatric visits for anxiety rose by more than 250% in 10 years. Traditional systems are not built to address this crisis. But BCP is. It’s why our mental health clinicians are integrated directly into primary care appointments–for rapid, coordinated support, when kids need it most.

Today, we remember the life and legacy of BCP’s dear friend, Peter Baer Schneidman, who passed away one year ago today after a long battle with cancer.

Pete was a beloved part of the BCP community, touching so many lives with his humor and care for the families we serve. Today, and every day, our hearts are with his wife, Marie-Claire, and his family as we continue to honor his legacy through the kindness and compassion he shared so generously with others.

To honor Pete’s memory, his family established the Peter Baer Schneidman Camp Fund at BCP, which has helped more than 100 BCP patients experience the joy and magic of summer camp.

A recent report from the American Academy of Pediatrics is encouraging pediatricians to provide more whole-patient care by integrating mental health into their practice. At Boston Community Pediatrics, we’re happy to hear it–because that has been our model from day one.

Our pediatricians annually screen patients for mental health needs and collaborate directly with our onsite behavioral health clinicians to deliver rapid, coordinated care, including 1,883 behavioral health visits for 224 patients in 2025.

What’s more, our mental health appointments achieved a stunning no-show rate of just 6%, meaning that more children who needed care, actually received it. Outside of BCP, we know that only 15% of children with low income are able to access the mental healthcare they need.

Now, that’s whole-patient care integrating physical and mental health that kids can count on.

Thank you, Cummings Foundation!

BCP just received an amazing $40,000 donation from Cummings Foundation through their Make a Difference Dollars (MAD$) program.

We’re especially honored because MAD$ funding recipients are nominated by site-visit volunteers, who champion organizations that they see doing meaningful work in the community. This support will help BCP bring integrated mental health care to more children in need, including with the hire of two new mental health clinicians and a child and adolescent psychiatrist who all will be joining our team this year.

Thank you so much to the Cummings Foundations volunteers. Your commitment to health equity allows us to go beyond traditional health care and provide the integrated mental health support every child deserves.

It was such a treat to meet 🐶💕, who brings joy and wellbeing to kids at Boston Children’s Hospital. Huge thanks to Millie’s fabulous mom for bringing her in to check out BCP!

Do you think she will be back? We sure hope so!🐶🐾💕✨

Just a little Monday motivation from BCP’s Girls on the Run team. 💙

Painted rocks, inspirational quotes, and a whole lot of heart for their community impact project!

"She believed she could, so she did." “You can do this!” "I'd rather show up imperfectly than not show up at all."

These girls are training their bodies AND their minds. We could not be more proud. 🏃🏽‍♀️💪
