We’ve read the books.

That’s not random.

We all see life through a lens.

That lens is built from the stories we’ve repeated, believed, and carried long enough that they start feeling like truth.

Your brain is wired to filter information through what it already believes.

That’s science made human.

The filter isn’t the problem.

The real question is:

Have we ever stopped long enough to ask if the story underneath it is actually true?

Pause before the old story takes over.

I have to do it all myself.

Asking for help means I'm failing.

If it's not perfect, it doesn't count.

Nobody handed you those out loud.

They just got repeated enough times to feel like the truth — like the walls of your whole world.

But that's not who you are. That's a story running on autopilot.

And the moment you can finally see it? You get to question it.

That's the whole shift.

What belief have you accepted as “just the way life is”?

Maybe it sounds like:

“This is all I’ll ever be.”
“I just have to suck it up.”
“I’ll never be as good as them.”

Those stories can get so familiar that they start feeling like truth.

But a pause gives me room to question the box I’ve been living inside.

Not with shame.
Not with pressure.
Just honesty.

Who told me this was true?

And do I still want this story writing my life?

The words I use with myself matter.

Not in a fluffy, pretend-everything-is-perfect way.

In a real nervous system way.

When my inner voice gets mean, my body hears it. My energy shifts. My reactions change. And suddenly, I’m carrying more weight than the day already handed me.

So this is the reminder I’m taking with me:

Pause before the old conversation takes over.

Breathe before believing the harsh version of the story.

Proceed like I’m on my own side.

Because the friend in me deserves more airtime than the enemy.

Change your story and you change your view of the world."

That one sat with me for a long time.

Because most of us are walking around with stories we wrote years ago
— maybe decades ago
— and we've never once stopped to ask if they were even true.

I'm not good enough. I'm always behind. Nobody really listens to me.

We don't experience those as stories.

We experience them as facts. As just the way things are. As who we are.

And that's exactly the problem.

The story isn't the truth. It's just the story you've been telling the longest.
