Importance of gut-brain axis: There seems to be a genetic link between major depression and physical illness, with the biggest link seen with gut disorders, like GERD & IBS.

This study uses genomic structural equation modeling to analyze genetic relationships between major depressive disorder and physical disease comorbidities and identifies independent loci associated with their shared genetic liability.
