🌿 Back to the roots. 🌿

There is something special about learning from the plants that have grown alongside us for generations. 127 Wild Medicinal Plants of the Southwestern US is such a beautiful resource for reconnecting with the land, learning plant identification, sustainable foraging, and the traditional uses of the plants around us.

For Rain Patch Apothecary, this is the heart of what we’re about honoring the wisdom of the land, & learning from nature.

The land has always had something to teach us. We just have to slow down and listen. 🤎🌵

The desert has a way of reminding us that healing doesn’t have to be rushed. 🌵🤎

Sometimes it’s quiet. Sometimes it’s slow. Sometimes it’s simply learning to root ourselves again.

A little reminder from the land today: give yourself time to grow. 🌿

🌿 THE SURPRISING DESERT WATER THIEF (It’s Not What You Think)

💧When we talk about saving water in New Mexico, we usually look at cities, factories, or tech data centers. But one of our biggest water crises is actually a silent, green invader growing right in our riverbeds: Salt Cedar (Tamarisk). Most people don’t realize the staggering scale of this problem:

❌ The Tech Footprint: A massive individual data center (like Meta in Los Lunas) uses about 75 million gallons of water a year. Combined, all 20+ data centers operating or built across New Mexico consume up to 1.8 billion gallons of water annually.

🚨 The Salt Cedar Footprint: In just one single region—the Middle Pecos River basin feeding Brantley Lake—invasive Salt Cedar drains between 1.77 BILLION and 1.96 BILLION gallons of water every single year. That means the infestation in just one river valley destroys as much water as our state's entire data center industry combined.

Why this matters to New Mexicans:** aquifer depletion:** A single mature salt cedar can drink up to 200 gallons a day, dropping water tables out of reach for native plants.

Ecosystem damage: They choke out native cottonwoods and willows, ruining habitats for local wildlife.Agricultural loss: This is water directly lost to local irrigation allowances and fragile desert wetlands.
New Mexico state and local agencies work hard on eradication, but awareness is the first step. Next time you drive past Brantley Lake or the Pecos River and see those pink-purple shrubs, remember: you're looking at millions of gallons of water disappearing into thin air.

In a world that constantly pulls us in every direction, sometimes the most powerful thing we can do is reconnect with the earth beneath our feet.

Grounding, or earthing, is the simple practice of making direct contact with the earth—walking barefoot on grass, standing in the sand, or sitting beneath a tree. Many people find that it helps them slow down, feel more present, reduce stress, and reconnect with themselves. While research is still evolving, taking time in nature can be a meaningful part of a wellness routine.

Being rooted doesn’t mean standing still. It means creating a strong foundation so you can weather life’s storms with clarity, resilience, and peace.

Take a deep breath, step outside, and let nature remind you where you belong. 🌿✨

There’s something deeply comforting about an apothecary — not just in the products themselves, but in what it represents. An apothecary brings us back to slower, more intentional care. It’s a reminder that wellness doesn’t always have to be rushed or complicated; sometimes it looks like herbs steeping gently, oils infused with purpose, and small rituals that help us feel more connected to our bodies, our homes, and the earth God gave us.

For generations, apothecaries have been a place where plants, tradition, and healing come together. From soothing skin and supporting rest to creating moments of peace in the middle of busy lives, herbal remedies and botanical products offer a beautiful way to care for ourselves more naturally and mindfully. There is something special about knowing what you’re putting on your skin, in your bath, or into your daily routines — and choosing ingredients that are simple, thoughtful, and rooted in creation.

To me, an apothecary is more than a collection of oils, herbs, and remedies. It’s a way of honoring the beauty of plant-based care, the wisdom passed down through generations, and the sacredness of everyday healing. It’s about creating space for rest, comfort, and intentional living — one small batch, one remedy, and one ritual at a time. 🌿
